One of the better war films using two of the top actors of the time from Japan and America. A survival film but has a weak ending though one of many options of how the movie could have ended. In someway, the film was under rated at the time.. Helps to know both English and Japanese to fully understand the entire film. Interesting movie

I was learning how to run projectors when I ran this movie back in the 70's. Only two actors in the whole project portraying two enemy combatants at each other's throats but then find momentary peace. Marvin in real life, served as a Marine on Saipan during WWII, being shot twice and awarded the Purple Heart.
