wonderful dirtball character gets rewarded for well hidden goodness

Great Movie With a Great Cast Of Actors !!

I love this movie ! It reminds me of a time in my life when I was going through a divorce with my sons mother. I felt a little like Dustin Hoffman in the character Bernie Laplante he portrays in this movie. And it always bring a smile to my face. The 1st time I watched it I had my son for the weekend and had never heard of the movie before. My son didnt really want to watch it, but upon viewing the cast I decided that it would be worth watching. We loved this movie and have watched it several times. I just bought a DVD copy for myself and one to give my son for Christmas.
This movie didnt do well at the box office and has never really been well received. It is generally unknown by most of the general public. But it is one of my favorite movies and always will be.
I highly recommend it to anyone who is a Dustin Hoffman, Gina Davis, Andy Garcia, Chevy Chase or Tom arnold fan. Plus there are other less famous actors that are also superb in this little know but outstanding movie.Read full review...

I purchased this DVD of Hero because I accidently broke mine. This is a must in any DVD collection. This movie draws you in from the very beginning. The actors chosen for the parts were so perfect. The story line is about 3 main characters whose lives are about to change in a big way--A down and out father and ex-husband--his dispointed and angry ex-wife who is worried about her son, and a ex-warhero who has accepted his poor way of living. Then suddenly, one-- out of control circumstance, begins the interesting rolling ball of change between relationships, and lives on a personal level, and the story comes to a full circle of meaning and awakenings. I never get tired of it, the energy, humor, and clean motivations that finally pay off. The masses can all relate to these characters on a regular basis. Of course we want to see all these unhappy people get what they want and are interested in how this will come about, so it is a hopeful, wish- for all of us to see this happen. A real good feeling movie with hope and much laughter--the question is, can we laugh at ourselves as we go thru bad times. Thanks, PaulaRead full review...

A really wonderful dramatic comedy I greatly enjoyed!!

This is a really great movie with some great acting! Story about a low-life guy who is driving along in the rain when a passenger plane crashes nearby. Although he isn't exactly the hero we'd hope for, he somehow manages to save all the passengers from the burning plane. They cannot see him however, through all the thick smoke.

He leaves the scene upset because he lost a shoe in the process. He ends up leaving his remaining shoe in the vehicle of the guy who gives him a lift since having only one shoe doesn't do him much good.

He watches his other shoe (the one left behind on the plane) in the NEWS headlines shortly thereafter, as everyone is searching for the heroic guy who saved all those people- and the only clue is by his shoe. Whoever owns the matching shoe must be the hero! There is even a one million dollar reward. What happens next is wildly funny, you must get the movie to find out! This is a very dramatic comedy that I greatly enjoyed!Read full review...

Best movie I've even seen!

I have seen many, many movies, and I think this is probably the best one I've ever seen! The movie is heartwarming and makes one glad to be alive, and relieved to know that there may be more goodness in a person than is evident, even more in ourselves than we may realize. After seeing it, I told my family and friends that it would actually hurt me to know that any one among them may have seen this movie, and neglected to tell me about it or to recommend it to me!
