History of Rock 'n Roll...not quite!

I was so excited to get this collection but boy, was I ever disappointed. The 5 DVD set features some of the most awesome performances by some of the greatest Rockers in the world! But they missed so many more. It went from the 60s, to the 70s, to the 90's, and practically dimissed the 80s. They thrashed Disco, yet devoted the the last DVD to Punk and Rap.The commentaries were from only a few rock stars (I'm guessing the only ones they could find) and some were biased in the musical opinions. Who Influenced Whose Music

I bought this box set as a supplement to my summer school lessons - we're studing everything about the 60s. School computers will not let you view youtube, lol. I like that the DVDs came with a table of contents so I can forward to various clips of certain artists. Teen Idols, Elvis, British Invasion, Motown, Surf, Folk, Woodstock and some war protest songs. However, what I don't like is it it not always in cronolocial order. The kids aren't interested in the interview parts - me and you are, lol, and at home we would watch the whole thing in order. However, with the kids it's alot of jumping around. I would've liked something with less talking and more complete song clips. The music keeps getting interupted with interviews. great rock n roll collections superbly done...must own

A friend had about 3 of these 5 DVDs with two different segments per each DVD for a total of 10 titles covering early rock n roll roots up through 60's through 80s, on to guitar heroes, then lastly, punk and then on up to date of issue. Visually and audibly excellent...truly a rock n roller's must have.

Time/Life did this the greatest way possible. Get this must have for yourself or a dear one in your life. You can't go wrong. The roots themselves reveal some interesting and different credits to different artists' contributions.

5 hours of lame content

Regardless of your age or particular years of interest, no in depth disclosures here. The same 4- maybe 5- artists with their perspectives re appear in several segments. Great--but those 20 minutes total are the only worthiness this foiled foiled box set has to offer. Most ALL segments lack basic enlightment of their theme. WEAK!! After 30 years of reading accounts of rock and roll's history you're much better off reading 5 or 6 books- and there are a FEW well made videos. THIS IS NOT ONE OF THEM.Read full review...

Not what I expected. It's bias attitude for giving credit for all rock & roll to one group & not enough music video's . In other words to much edit not enough misic !
