Excellent value.

Today was alarm system day. Replaced the old Ademco 6128 that had sticking keys with this one plus a door status sensor gone bad. Replacing the Ademco 6128 was very easy. Had to clip the connector off the cable, then terminate the four wires identical to the 6128. The 6150 has nicer features as the keys light up and the display lights up when you press a key. Bigger buttons also. Be careful separating the front cover from the backplate. At the top use a flat screwdriver to CAREFULLY pry the case apart slightly at each fastener. At the bottom push in the slot with the flat blade on each side. I busted the old 6128 getting it apart to remove the back plate from the wall...... Wonder how I saved doing this myself?Read full review...

Replacing older Ademco keypad

My house is about 15yrs old now and the old Ademco keypad had finally given up. They don't make that model anymore (I THINK it was a 6128, but I searched the internet and found that the 6150 was a good replacement for it)

My old keypad was addressed as 31 (default). This keypad has 4 extra buttons outside the flip-down cover keypad that my old one didn't have. I only ran into 2 issues which logic overcame.

1 - Back cover and mounting on this matched perfectly with my old one, so no problem there.
2 - This has screw-down terminals. My old one had a 4-pin connector. Instructions on the back of the box here was a LITTLE unhelpful. As I recall, the 3 wires were labeled like Data In, +, -, Data Out on the instructions. But the terminal block and circuit board had no indication of which was which EXCEPT for + and - leads. However, I made the assumption that those followed the same order as the instructions and that worked.
3 - Since the existing keypad had a connector, there was no alternative but to cut the wires. Not really a problem, but it's always a bit bothersome to cut wires on a connector when there's no guarantee the new system will work. However, since the old keypad was useless (one of the keys - a very necessary key - just didn't work anymore no matter how hard I pushed it or cleaned it underneath!) it really didn't matter.
4 - Turned off power, cut and stripped the wires, tightened down the terminal screws and powered up. There's a section on addressing on the box, but since my system has only 1 keypad and it was already set for address 31, and this came set for address 31, there was little I needed to do. I did get an error at first - D1 if I recall. But I just went through the alarm set and alarm clear process and it cleared up. Now it's working just like my original - no, better!

I probably should investigate the four outer buttons, but honestly I'll probably never do that. It works how the old one works and I don't think I'll need those outer buttons. My guess is that I can do "safe" stuff with them like set the system for STAY or AWAY with one-touch, and maybe an instant alarm function. But since the old one didn't use them, I'm not sure how to program them to do that. So I'll just keep using it like my old one instead.

SUMMARY:
VERY happy to get this and at a good price. Highly recommended and really it was a very easy install. Just be aware you may have to do a bit of wire cutting and stripping.

A quick fix for an old problem

I only needed a simple thermostat to replace a predecessor of this model. This has some additional features which I find useful e.g. an alpha display. Did I mention that the price was right and that I already knew how to install and program it?Read full review...

Replaced old Ademco

Had an old 6128 Ademco pad that had the numbers sticking (#3) to be exact. Researched and saw this is it's replacement. Got it quick on Ebay. Took out the old one and easily replaced it with the 6150. Bigger number pads, cleaner look and works perfect. Read full review...

Quick and easy to install

Bought this keypad to replace one 20 yrs old that was yellowing and had lost its keypad cover. After giving my alarm company a "heads-up" it took about 15 minutes to remove the old one and install the new. Directions are precise and easy to follow and without knowing whether it was necessary I was able to assign the unit the same address code as the one it was replacing. Everything works and it looks a whole lot better which pleases my spouse.. Read full review...

Honeywell/Ademco 6150 Keypad

This replacement unit works really well. If I could only figure out how to program the 4 Function keys it would be even better.
