Hook-Steven Spielberg

Synopsis
Peter Banning (formerly Pan) has become a fat, middle aged, work-aholic, lawyer with no time for his wife or kids (he also cant remember anything before he was 12, when he left Neverland and was adopted by an elderly Wendy Darling, he then fell in love with, and married Moira, her Grand Daughter). His daughter Maggy is too young to understand, his relationship with his son, Jack is in serious jeppardy and his wife Moira is frustrated with him for constantly working. Whilst on christmas holiday in London to visit his Grandmother, Wendy Moira Angela Darling, his children are kidnapped by Captain Hook. Wendy tells him he must go to Neverland and fight Hook for his kids. Naturaly Peter thinks she's gone nuts.
Peter turns to drink that night, Tinkerbell comes along and takes him (unconcious) back to Neverland.
He wakes up in a pirate town, thinking its all fake untill he comes face to face with Hook and his kids. Hook's distraught because he has stolen Pan's kids to lure Peter back to Neverland to have a final showdown with him, only to find his arch nemesis has become old and fat and is afraid of hights, and gives him 3 days to sort himself out and give Hook his 'Ultimate war' or he'll kill him and his children. Tinkerbell takes Peter to the Lost Boys, who after alot of persuasion, (on both sides) agree to help become who he once was and rescue his children.

Hook is a fantasic, magical adventure for children and adults, with a rousingly stunning score by John Williams, and directed by Steven Spielberg.(Spielberg was actually in post production Hook whilst he was on principle photography for Jurassic Park, producing two films at once. A feat in film making only passed recently by Peter Jackson who shot his epic Lord Of The Rings trilogy at the same time over an 18 month period)
Robin Williams is great as Peter Banning, the disbelieveing and cynical lawyer.
Dustin Hoffman's portrail of Captain James Hook is outstanding, bursting onto the screen with Hook's eccentricities and child-like exuberance which eclipses all other performances.
Bob Hoskins is the perfect Smee and fills the role with all you would expect.
There are many child actors in the film portarying the Lost Boys and Peters children. Forefront is Amber Scott who plays Peter's daughter Maggie, portraying her exactly as a 6 year old should be.
Veteran actress Maggie Smith also makes for the perfect Granny Wendy.
There are many cameo's including Gwyneth Paltrow, Phil Collins, Glenn Close, George Lucas and Carrie Fisher

This is definatley one of Spielberg's greatest films that uses lavish sets (the pirate town and a full size Jolly Roger are particularly impressive) and takes an unusual twist on J.M.Barrie's timeless book and makes it a fabulous adventure for all to enjoy.

Hooked on Hook

While not yet available on Blu-ray DVD this standard DVD purchase of Hook, featuring Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman and Bob Hoskins is a very good quality release of the movie. I bought it new and unopened and didn't have to deal with previous smudges or scratches and I'm thankful for that. For those that have never seen the movie before it picks up with Peter Pan having left never-never land and come to live in our world. He has grown up and become a corporate lawyer, having completely forgotten his inner child and the magic of a child's imagination. Captain Hook grows tired of merely existing in the far-distant realm that Peter left and captures Peter's kids to force him to return for one final battle between the Lost Boys and Hook's crew. This is a great family movie and quite affordable now. Get your copy if you don't already have one.Read full review...

Hook (2000) Robin Williams, Dustin Hoffman,...

In 1990, Steven Spielburg asked himself the question - what would have happened if Peter Pan really did grow up?? Producers Kathleen Kennedy and Frank Marshall helped Steven explore the possibilities. The full-grown Peter Pan, or Peter Banning,(Robin Williams), if you will, is currently living in L.A. California with a wife and kids. Going back to England for Christmas, they spend it with Grandma Wendy. Terror strikes when his kids are kidnapped by Captain James Hook, himself! Hook is out for revenge! Tinkerbell,(Julia Roberts), comes to Peter's aid and takes him away back to Never Neverland! Peter is now confronted by his youthful past at the same time Hook is declaring war against the lost boys. Will Peter and the kids get back to the real world before it's too late??Read full review...

Peter Pan In A Whole New Way

This is a great Peter Pan story. A little different than the usual story. Robin Williams plays Peter Pan who is all grown up and has kids of his own. Dustin Hoffman who plays Capitan Hook kidnaps Peters children one night. Julia Roberts who plays Tinkerbell has to make Peter remember who he really is in order to save his children. Action, adventure, and comedy make this a great family movie. Also has the lost boys, pirates, mermaids and so much more! There are a couple sad parts, but overall I would say this is a must see.Read full review...

An Ultimate Message of Family Values

This movie is the epitome of family values, I mean it does such a beautiful and imaginative way of teaching parents to appreciate life and most importantly the imaginations and minds of their children. "Never grow up...stop this instant in this house" as Granny Wendy tells the Banning family when they enter her humble abode of childish fun. Peter Pan's enlightenment is so powerful it brings tears to my eyes when he realizes why he grew up in the first place and what he has been missing in his kids...GOD BLESS THIS MOOOOVIEEEE AND STEVEN SPIELBERG!!!!!Read full review...
