Houseboat (DVD, 2002)

This is a nice old classic movie with Carey Grant as Tom Winston, a Washington DC low level diplomat. His estranged wife is killed in an auto wreck and suddenly he has to assume the role of Daddy. His three kids have ostensibly grown up with out him and he is really in a spot. His apartment is what was referred to back then as somewhat of a bachelor pad, and not suited for children. He needs help! The kids are out of control, and are real brats. They readily use his inexperienced demeanor against him.

Cinzia Zaccardi (Sophia Loren) is the beautiful daughter of an Italian Symphony Conductor. He is very strict and she is dying to break away and have some fun. She introduces herself as a maid to help Winston with the kids. She is very beautiful and is attracted to Winston. He decides to take her on as a Nanny. Tom buys a house and while it is being moved to a parcel of land in the country, it gets stuck on a railroad track and demolished by a train. With no other option, he buys a leaky old houseboat. It is run down and sinking, but over time, they fix it up and make a home. Constantly living in close quarters, relationships are inevitable. Tom meets a rich girl and is moving in the society circle. Cinzia has fallen in love with him, but he doesn't know. Tom becomes close with his children, and sees that they are also very to Cinzia. Houseboat, romance love and fun !

Houseboat is a classic ! A wonderful go to movie again and again! I love Sophia Loren and Cary Grant. And to think as they dance, he's really in love with her! Of course, she married her lifelong husband ! Its a funny, romantic movie! And the reason soundtracks were invented. Sam Cook singing the "Houseboat" song "Almost In Your Arms" ! I love Cary Grant, and this movie was in excellent condition, and great value for the price! Cary Grant and Sophie Loren shine in this classic love story. It is funny, it is romantic, and you can't help but love the movie. It is the perfect movie to sit down with and enjoy movie night. It can take you away from my "mom" world and keep you totally enchanted.
