very pleased

I recently started using Windows 10 and some of my favorite games wouldn't work. I purchase the Hoyle Card Games 2008 because it said it would work on Windows 10. It installed easily and works perfectly. On some of the games the graphics are just a bit slow, but not enough to be an issue.Read full review...

Review of the Forty Thieves Selection

I've played only Forty Thieves from this program, so these comments apply only to Forty Thieves. I'm comparing it to Forty Thieves in an old program that I used to play, from the days of OS 9 and OS X, on G3 processors. That old program was Eric's Ultimate Solitaire, a shareware program. This Hoyle game isn't as good as Eric's Ultimate Solitaire. It doesn't figure out the best place to play cards, when I click on them, as did the old program. So, I have to drag cards manually to the best location. The cards in the rows in the middle of the game are not spread out enough that you can see the cards that are hidden. In Eric's Ultimate Solitaire, you could see the suit and number of all of the cards in those middle rows. You could also see the cards that had already been transferred to the second stack, at the bottom. With this game, you can't. Also with this game, you can't move an entire stack, as you could do with Eric's Ultimate Solitaire. Finally, you have to go through too many windows to get to Forty Thieves, with this program. Eric's Ultimate Solitaire would open directly to the most recent game. This game works, it's acceptable, but the code is definitely inferior to that of Eric's Ultimate Solitaire. Sadly, I couldn't find a version of Eric's Ultimate Solitaire that would run on the Intel processor.Read full review...

Same games but will load and play on Windows 10

My old game pack would not play on Windows 10. This one does. I like the variety of card games available to me. I'm an old timer and many of today's games don't play well for me. Cards are fun, quick, and I even have learned some new ones.

Very pro, entertaining, full install, runs from HD.

The version I have is for Mac and PC - I have fully installed both versions and all the games and features work without the disc being left in the drive.
Hoyle wrote the original "Rules of Games" books and I like the Hoyle games discs better than any.
Full rules, how to play and strategy tips are included - a book with all the rules come with the set.
The player characters are funny and entertaining - you can choose the players you want to play with, adjust the level of talk, background music before you play or while you're playing. You can also personalize the appearance and voice of your own player character.
This set includes games which involve gambling and many that do not.
You earn Hoyle bucks as you play that can be spent on adding additional features to the games.
You can save games and return later - but you don't earn Hoyle bucks on saved games.
Of course, you're playing for chips, not real money. A good way to practice playing games until you're ready to play with others in real, live game settings.
Overall a very entertaining and fun package! Almost as fun as playing with real people - but not quite.

Same old, same old

Little has been done to update this game from the game I played on my first 8088, There for the graphics look rather corn ball and down right cheesy! I you care nothing for any of the frills and have a need to waste away several hours trying to beat the computer at a game it is far better suited for then you are. Then sit down and enjoy! It is fun and doesn't cost all that much and there are worse ways of getting the pants beat off you.Read full review...

Good card collection for hours of entertainment.

It's a little dated, but hours of good clean card-filled fun. Cooky opponents, variations of card games, it's a good collection.

Great software best card playing value

Just wish it was available for smartphones. Tried all the completion Hoyle is superior. Humans play better but Hoyle is still darn good.
I've uninstalled all my smartphone spade apps cause their frustratingly bad. Hoyle gives a great experience albeit only on Macs and PCs.Read full review...

Hoyle's card games for Mac

My Mac does not come with good games for non big gamers, and I wanted to get passing-the-time games to play.
What I do not like is cutesy graphics and "players" in the games. Though I am happy to be able to play "hearts, crazy eights, etc.
So overall, it works fine and if I keep off the sound, I can just play my mindless games.

Hoyle Card Games - Good simple fun!

I am not an avid card player, but I do like my solitaire. The variety of games is exceptional, many game are probably new for even the most avid player. The character feature is a hoot although the background atmosphere can be a little distracting, thank goodness for being able to turn off. All-in-all a really fun simple game for your computer in a world of sci-fi and fantasy special effects and blow'em up and kill games.Read full review...
