It is a great game

I have to get nostalgic and say that Metal Gear Solid is one of my favorite games and this is a great update to the game. I played Mgs as a kid and got mgs:tts when it released(it's why I got a gamecube) to relive the game in updated graphics and engine.Read full review...

Great but had some flaws

The game itself was a blast to play. But the first disc had a few big scratches on it that caused the game to freeze up or crash on more than a few occasions.

Very awsome remake for an awsome game series.

Meta Gear Solid. Some say it's the best game series ever. I say it's a very excellent one. Some will also bash the Twins Snakes for what ever various reasons. I say if you havent played a Metal Gear Solid game and have a Gamecube or Wii I say at least give this game a rental. First thing you should know is this game is NOT both Metal Gear Solid 1 and Metal Gear Solid 2 in the same game. It is just a remake of the first Metal Gear Solid game using the graphics engine and controls of the second game. Basically in the game you play a soldier code named Solid Snake who has to infiltrate a nuclear disposal facility on Shadow Moses Island and stop the terrorists who invaded the place before they launch a nuke. Snake soon finds out that the military was actually working on a bipedal tank called Metal Gear REX that could launch a nuke from pratically any terrain. Eventually he comes across a scientitst named Hal Emmerich (also known as Otacon) after fighing off the Cyborg Ninja. After rescuing Otacon and telling him that Metal Gear REX was not to help people but designed to be a weapon Snake goes on to take out an elite unit called FOXHOUND, save a gir named Meryl, take out his twin brother Liquid Snake, and destroy REX with some help from Otacon, Meryl, and a certain someone.Read full review...

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes (Game Cube)

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes for the Nintendo Gamecube is a revised version of the Metal Gear game for the Playstation one system. It has the same main storyline, but with better graphics that match or surpass those of the Metal Gear Solid 2 game, which was for the Playstation 2, as well as some altered storyline plots. You get to do the same great stealthy things, like sneaking up on targets and shaking them down for supplies, and using silent weapons to put them all down one by one. There are plenty of things to do in this game, and there is even a level of replayability to it. If you beat the game with certain criteria met, you earn special upgrades like infinite ammo to use when you replay through the game for added fun. The storyline is still very deatailed, and it is just as interesting to go through as the original game was. If you are a Metal Gear fan, you must own this game.Read full review...

A Good Addittion To Your Gamecube Library

I saw a reviewer say that there's too much cheesy dialog and cutscenes; they don't understand Metal Gear. The gameplay isn't revolutionary, but it works, but MGS is much more than that. It has a wonderful story and well-choreographed cutscenes, although it does begin to make you think "That doesn't seem possible." This game's story and dialog rivals great stories such as FFVII. Also, there are above-average voice actors that in some ways exceed the Japanese actors, which is rare. I recommend this only if you want an entertaining story and good long cutscenes. If you're looking for a great gameplay experience, try Splinter Cell, since sometimes you can play this game with heavy action, something you can't do in Splinter Cell.Read full review...

One big flaw: not directed by Hideo Kojima

There's only one thing that makes me really like this game. Just one: the newly done cinamatics. The intro battle between Snake and cyborg ninja was just incredible. And how Snake takes out the HIND D helicopter... wow. It can be too over to top (is this Matrix of MGS?) but still, they were incredible. And the graphics that this is done in... wow.

Everything else... so so.

The gameplay is exactly the same as MGS2 and a little less. The newly added features make this game too easy. There's no difficulty factor anymore.

But there's one thing that makes me just grind my teeth and hate it. Newcomers to MGS series won't understand and they should definitely buy this game because it is fun and amazing. But if you're fans of the MGS series, buy the PC version of Metal Gear Solid instead.

Why?

The newly done voice overs. Absoutely horrible. No, take that back. Absolutely worst thing ever to enter in the realm of this planet we deem Earth. Even David Hayter turns out to be a HORRIBLE voice actor in this game.

Everyone is monotonous, has absolutely no emotions and what is with the 30 second pauses in the conversations? Seriously. For example...

Colonel: Snake you have to find a wall with a difference color.
(pause for five seconds)
Snake: a wall with different colors?
(pause for two seconds)
Colonel: Yes. (pause) That's what the DARPA chief said.
(pause for ten seconds)
Snake: Ok. Gotcha.

What in the almighty God's name is that?!! Snake isn't dumb!!! He speaks six different languages all fluently and he knows the insides and outsides of guns and he can memorize long passwords just by glimpsing at it. So what's the deal in making him a total idiot? And everyone else as well?

Not only that, the new voiceovers for the cyborg ninja and Psycho Mantis will make you want to commit suicide. The original voice acting had me on the edge of my seat. With the new voice overs for Psychy Mantis, I found myself yawning and wondering where my PS2 was so I could play something else.

There's one thing to learn from this: Hideo Kojima should direct MGS. No one else.

AWESOME BUT NOT AS GOOD AS YOU WOULD THINK

Its a great game and i have not beaten it completely yet but i feel like im not sure that i want to, as the game is the same as the original. I like that it is revamped with newer graphics but if you have played and beaten the original 4 or 5 times then theres no point it seems. The only thing you will enjoy will be the graphics some what and the feel that you have when playing it because it feels like Metal Gear Solid 2 on the PS2, ive been very annoyed since this games release because they stopped production on the PS2 port but since gamecubes are so cheap now, its definately worth a playthrough. The game is still very expensive but i would not pay over 20 bucks. Its not worth it.Read full review...

One of the best remakes in the history of gaming.

A remake can only be as good as the game it is based on.

Fortunately, this remake is based on one of the best games of all time -- Metal Gear Solid.

Metal Gear Solid: The Twin Snakes is an amazing game for many different reasons. First of all, it is just a great game in and of itself. The levels, the weapons, the characters.. everything has had so much thought, planning, and care put into it that it really shows. You can tell this is truly a AAA title. The game offers challenging gameplay, and this is very much welcomed in today's age of "casual gaming". Thank you Konami for not compromising your standards on challenging gameplay.

Secondly, MGS:TS is great from the standpoint that it is a very faithful remake of the original game, while still incorporating new and exciting elements of gameplay only found in MGS:SOL and on. An example of this is the first person shooting that can now be performed in MGS:TS.

Another great element of this game are the cutscenes. The cutscenes in Metal Gear Solid are pretty much the benchmark for any other game, as they are some of the best out there; especially considering that they use the in-game engine. MGS:TS is no different, and in fact, it vastly improves on the cutscenes from the original. When you watch some of these cutscenes, your mouth will be left gaping open in awe. A lot of influences from the matrix and the whole "bullet-time" ideology have made it into the cutscenes, but these elements are don't feel "stolen" or contrived, they are simply awesome. Wait until you see some of them, and you will agree.

Overall, this game is completely amazing. I am floored with the quality of this game, and the fact that the original Metal Gear Solid has held up so well over time is a testament in and of itself. This game was pretty much a sleeper hit, but it's a GREAT way to experience Metal Gear Solid, especially if you've never experienced it before. I highly recommend this game to anyone who has or hasn't played the original. Get it now, it's that good.

great remake

The masterwork that spurred a cinematic movement and made high-tech espionage a staple in the world of video games is back to entertain another generation. Whether you found yourself staring wide-eyed in disbelief at a taut, action-packed sequence, or marveling in awe at the cleverness of the stealth-laden gameplay, Metal Gear Solid delivered one memorable moment after another in its original version. Under the guidance of series' creator Hideo Kojima and the development muscle of Silicon Knights, players are invited to rekindle these unforgettable moments in this technologically advanced remake.

If you were to go back and play through the PSone version today, I can pretty much guarantee that the thought, "I can't believe that I used to think that these graphics were amazing" would pass through your mind. The 32-bit era of gaming didn't exactly age well. Pixellated texturing…jagged polygons…it's not a pretty sight. Hence, all of the graphics in the Twin Snakes are completely updated and showcase the best of today's texturing, effects, and character modeling.

An all time great

This game is an absolute must for any true Metal gear Solid fan. I have loved MGS since first playing it for my PS one and have truly never been satisfied with anything produced till Metal Gear Solid 4, but this game topped it off. I am a big fan of remakes, and I constantly buy older games off of both PlayStation Network and Xbox Marketplace that have been remastered in sound and visual components, and I was going to purchase the original MGS on PlayStation network till I decided to check for a remake. Sure enough the GameCube came through with it.
The game contains all its original elements of storyline, while adding extended movie action, better sound quality and way better graphics. I personally have played the game on my Wii counsel and have added the 480p component for visual enhancement. This game looks the best out of any from that era of gaming with that cable (which can be bought on eBay for about 5 bucks).
All in all, the game is amazing and has only been remade to fix all the little problems. A lot of people complain about the voice acting, but honestly it’s all the same to me, if not better. I without doubt recommend you purchase this game, and if this review doesn’t help, check out YouTube for the gameplay videos yourself. My only wish was that they would have added the VR missions as gray fox to this game, but they didn’t :(
