Works great!

I just want to get one thing straight, I believe the people who are having issues with the fans not working are running into voltage and amperage supply issues. Most people I read about are piggybacking both of these fans into their RC receiver, not cool. The BEC in most ESC's are not designed to handle extra current of these fans along with the basic necessary equipment needed to drive the RC.

I used a multimeter with the negative lead off the fans running through it to measure amperage and these little things suck some juice when they are wide open, around 1 amp! The steering servo I measured while under high load was using around 1 amp, and my ESC cooling fan was using around 0.4 amps. Remember, these things run at 5V, you need more available amperage to get to maintain the rated performance these fans can deliver. So, add all these numbers up and you are pushing the poor little onboard BEC internal to the ESC to its almost limit. This is with a freshly charged 11.1V 3s lipo!

With a lower voltage battery like an 8.4V nimh, I just lowered the input voltage to the ESC's internal BEC almost 3 volts. If we look at ohm's law, in order to maintain performance when voltage decreases amperage must increase. Under a wide open throttle snap using the nimh battery, the 2 fans would quit running, and I had to blow on them to start back up. I rarely use the nimh battery, so I created a solution to the problem in order to run these fans.

I bought an aftermarket traxxas battery parallel split connector, one that would allow me to run 2 batteries. Instead of running 2 batteries, I cut the end of the connector off that would lead to the other battery and soldered in and heatshrinked an aftermarket dedicated 3 amp BEC just to run these fans. This way, the BEC internal to my ESC can run it's cooling fan as well as my steering servo and receiver with no issues of overcurrent. So now when I connect my 3s to my car, the motor cooling fans start up and run all the time, run fast and strong and have all the current they could ever want from the dedicated BEC.

I also removed all the screws from the fans and put red loctite around the threads and reinstalled. I USED to be worried about motor overtemp issues, NOT any more. I coupled this cooling fan/heatsink assembly with the Traxxas specific heatsink-only clip on. The second fan on this unit hangs over the other Traxxas clip on and cools that one as well. Top it all off by putting some really good Arctic Silver thermal paste between these things and the motor, and I decreased my bashing 15-20 minute run temps by almost 80 degrees F, I couldn't believe it. I don't worry about my motor temps anymore at all!

So, anyone put off by hearing that these fans quit working, just give these fans what they want in terms of constant BEC amperage and voltage and they will work with no issues. Not only will this method give your cooling fan system a bulletproof power supply, but you will be much nicer to your ESC! Those are expensive! I could buy 6 of these fans, BEC's and parallel connectors before I reached what I would spend on an ESC, if it burnt out due to internal BEC overload. I suppose they are not for the individual who just wants to plug and play. Take some time and figure out a good way to set it up, there is always a better way.

Product switched

Ordered this Integy branded dual fan heat sink. I was shipped the Power Hobby version, disappointed in the switch but the product works very well. Keeps the motor very cool. After a 20 min hard run with modded slash the motor was cool enough to hold on to with bare hands. Stays on during crashes too.Read full review...

Easy Easy Easy

I am brand new to RC, Put one on my JBL & one on my Vkar . Not specifically meant for these cars I know, but they are a dimensionally perfect fit . It must be the easiest possible way to keep my two motors cooler for almost no money. Cooler = Longevity . Simply PLUG & PLAY into the open pins on the multi channel receiver. If a newb like me can do it, anyone can !!! Only con : slightly on the loud side, can not hear them over the motor in motion, but if you like a silent car at stand still ??? I personally like the noise, I think it gives both of my cars more presence. Read full review...

Nice product

Nice product and easy to install. It is just a bolt on top of your motor and a little customization in order to have it working. If you are not capable or do not want to do a little customization buy a Y expander in order to install it directly to the esc unit. I run esc fan and motor fan that is why I need to customize in order to work like a charm. The 3 fans (2 in the motor and 1 in the esc) have a high current of air to the inside the car that you can feel it really strong. Totally piece of mind about heat issues here. Read full review...

Use thread lock but good unit

Good product but thread lock all the screws before running. My buddy who got one also lost half his screws in a few runs. I only lost one. Some thread lock has solved the problem. I am running a Losi truck Read full review...

Fan quit working the same day

Got a different brand to start with. Plugged them in and they blew a ton of air. Took my truck for a ride, brought it back and one of them had quit working. Three rides later and the were both gone. Poor qualityRead full review...

Cools well but super loud

It cools well but it's so loud that it annoys me so currently I'm using a heatsink without fan, but if you really push your RC car hard, this product could keep the motor cool.
