I replaced a Q6600 CPU with this Q9400. According to CPUBoss: "When it comes to benchmarks, the overclocked Intel Core 2 Quad Q9400 processor was able to complete the benchmark just as fast as the Intel Core i7 940 processor, which is wicked fast." But, according to UserBenchmark, the Q9400 ranks 486 out of 980 against a modern Core i9 7980XE at 1 of 980. "Considering its age it performs well in recent games'. Close t the top of the 775 family

What do you want in a computer?
If your answer is playing the newest games at the fastest speeds, this whole platform will do you no good.
If, on the other hand, you want to watch videos online, stream or download, email, and do other internet activities, There is no need for anything new, at this point in time. In fact, socket 478 is still a valid choice. If it were not for the purposeful refusal to support older platforms, Pentium 3 would still be a valid choice for all internet activity.

If you are running Win7 and older, this is as good as it gets on a budget.

Core 2 Duo and Core 2 Quad are all pretty much worth their paltry price tag today.

remember that these things were once the state of the art and have not lost any of their luster.

Finding older software, often unopened is like a good treasure hunt. Buy new, only if you must. Buy older, dare I say vintage for ecological reasons, as well. Cut down on e-waste.Read full review...

Good value for money for your old computer

CPU works well, I've tesed it with 100% load for a half of hour. Temperature did not exceed 40°С with a Big Typhoon cooler. I cannot try to overclock this CPU because my motherboard (Gigabyte EP45-DS3) has a problem with overclocking of any CPU.
I bought a 1050TI video card, then I replaced my old Intel E8400 with this CPU, now I play Fallout 4 without any lags and hangings.Read full review...

Quad Core Processor.

For the money this processor is well worth it. I have used dual core processors for a while and since upgrading to Windows 7 64bit version the dual core is ok. I had even jumped my ram up to 8 gig and it helped but once I put the quad core processor in it was a difference of night and day. It is unbelievable the amount of processing this thing can dish out. Before as I rendered videos, surfed the internet, and tried to run multiple applications you could see the speed drop a little as I did more. Not true anymore, some of the video rendering now takes minutes where it took hours before and I can still do a lot more with the computer than I ever could. Great Chip for the Money

I was a little skeptical about upgrading, paid $13 bucks for this chip and it has performed outstanding with my stock heatsink. Updated bios before install. Initially it seemed a little ill timed but after a week or two my computer flys through applications with very little CPU usage it's a solid CPU for the money. Last was considering the Q9650 which costs more, after studying the minor differences in performance I'm satisfied unless I can get the Q9650 for under $20 Bucks. If you have a good Q9400 from the Seller it should do your Dell 560 a great deal of justice, at least it did mines. Win 7, 8GB Ram.Read full review...

The last hope for 10-years old PCs

This quad-core processor is nearly the best one for the LGA775 socket which was widely used about 10 years ago and sowewhere still is. It performs roughly near the last-gen Pentium, but it can be awesome replacement for your old Core2 Duo CPU. This simple and affordable upgrade can bring new life to your Computer.

I replaced the Intel core 2 Duo E8400 in my Dell Optiplex 780 Desktop with 775 slot. I decided to buy this product after reading a review on a system builder blog that compared it to other cores in it's class. the Q 9400 out performed the other cores in most of the benchmark tests. After installing the new core I ran Windows Experience Rating. The rating went from 6.5 to 7.2 not only for the core but for my memory as well. I did not know that the slower core was keeping my memory from working at peak performance. After the upgrade my video playback and game applications load faster and run more smoothly. I was able to set the graphics on my favorite game to "Ultra High". I am not a comp tech but I was able to do this upgrade myself by following the directions in the manual I downloaded online. Most of the tech info in this review came from the service manual and auto system detect analysis, from Dell.com. Don't forget to get some thermal compound for the install.Read full review...
