Old SFF Desktop Upgrade

I wanted to extend the longevity and improve an old PC I bought off eBay for cheap, plus gain PC building skills as a beginner. So I found this compatible quad core processor and I already had a new stock intel fan to go with it. Applied some thermal paste, had issues with overheating but that was due to a difficult motherboard and push pins not lining up. Once I properly secured the fan so it was flush with the processor, no issues. I've monitored the temps ever since, runs nice and smooth, added another 8 gigs of ram. Good for internet browsing and emulation station. It was definitely an easy and worthwhile upgrade from the previous dual core. Now I feel ready to tackle my first Ryzen build from the ground up, new and different set of challenges. Read full review...

good value

If you have a motherboard with the 755 socket, and you don't want to upgrade the power supply on that older hardware quite yet, this CPU is a good choice. It can manage most gaming and practical task without complaint and doesn't draw too much power. Think source engine games like Garry's Mod or Team Fortress 2, or TES; Skyrim for what games it can manage flawlessly- the integrated graphics can handle that on normal settings. I'm glad to keep my computer running smoothly.Read full review...

Awesome for the price!

Used this to restore an old Dell Vostro 220s, works perfectly. The CPU does not support Intel turbo boost, which is okay with me. But that's not the seller's fault. It arrived two days earlier than said and came in very protected bubblewrap, followed by anti static packaging on the CPU itself. Every other used CPU I've ordered always had thermal paste all over it but this did not have any paste on it whatsoever. It was very clean! The old CPU the Vostro was working with was a single core CPU clocked ag 2.6 GHZ. Which was clocked out completely on Windows 10 idle. Was very funny to see! I paired it with a gtx 650ti and was able to play most modern games at medium/low settings at 50fps+. (This is with the GPU, not with the iG.

Slight issues I've encountered: The integrated graphics were alright, only game I could run was Minecraft Windows 10 edition. Take note that THE INTEGRATED GRAPHICS DO NOT SUPPORT OPEN GL SOFTWARE AND APPLICATIONS!!!!!!! With this, I was not able to run most Java programs like Minecraft java, or server software. Its highly recommend you use a gpu for this. I'm not sure if its driver issues or that it's simply too old for Open GL. It confused me for a bit, but that's okay.

Overall, a very very good CPU, I such an upgrade, really. Thank you for selling this to me.

Used CPU in fine condition

This used CPU was in fine condition. The top was reasonably clean, with only minor traces of thermal paste. The part that goes into the socket was spotless.

The CPU works as expected; I have stress tested it (with the GCC) and it performs well under duress. It does not get too hot, even with an Intel stock cooler.

A fine upgrade for my old desktop system!

Its a decent CPU

I'll be honest. At the start I was a bit disappointed with this CPU as it did not score as high as I expected in the Windows experience index. For example I saw in another computer that had an Intel core i7 quad core at 2.50 GHz which scored a 7.5 so I figured that being that my Q9550 having the same number of processor cores but a higher speed bus would make it score over 7.5. Wrong! It only scored a 7.3 and that's because the threads on the CPU that interact with the motherboard have been improved in the next gen Intel series giving it better bandwidth. Though the Q9550 still succeeds in being the second to best in the Intel core 2 quad series and just one step under the Q9650. The reason I got this possessor is because I have an older DG33M03 motherboard with an LGA775 socket and that the Q9550 is the best CPU it can support. I rate this slightly above average because it still manages to be at the recommended level for playing some of the latest games at the time of this review and that also I think its a great improvement over the Q6600 but falls short of being a 5/5 because of the overestimated score. Now I'm not a fan of overclocking because I don't like making components work harder then it was designed which is why I didn't but I do believe this can go from 2.83 to 4.00GHz at best. In conclusion I'm most happy with my purchase and I hope it stays future proof for a while longer.Read full review...

Easy, fast upgrade

Processor dropped right into an older HP 8000 Elite SFF to replace an E8400 Intel chip. Installation was stunningly easy. Booted right up and computer recognised it with no issued at all. Was rewarded with a substantial speed increase in all aspects. Thanks.Read full review...

Bad A** for the Price and Age of the CPU

I just switched over to this Q9550 from an old dual core E7500. I had the 7500 overclocked to 3.46ghz and it only got a 6.8 in Windows Rating. After an effortless installation of the Q9550 it bumped my rating up to 7.3, just at stock speeds! Now this may not be able to compete with Intel's new i-7 and SOME of the i-5's but I believe it would outperform all the i-3's and some of the i-5's. I'm not a hardcore gamer but I do play a few of the new games and this CPU blazes right through everything I can throw at it. Not too shabby considering the cpu is almost 5 years old. I would definitely recommend going for the Q9550 rather than the Q9650. The 9650 is exactly 5% faster than the 9550 BUT on average you'll be dishing out an extra $80-100 for the 9650. All in all it the 9550 is one heck of a CPU. Quad core technology is awesome!Read full review...

Fast shipping, Fast CPU for an older platform!

With this processor, 8GB of memory, and a solid state drive you have a fast PC despite being an older platform (LGA775). If you include a nice Graphics Card you have a good gaming computer. Highly recommended if you have a 2008ish or later Intel 775 motherboard.Read full review...

Great value for the money

All ok, fast delivery, good package.
his is still by far the best bang for buck processor you can get.
Out the box its at 2.8 so which is more than enough to run pretty much anything faster than any Dual core, yes even the E8400 4Ghz.

The Core is easily overclockable to 3.5Ghz at which point it becomes a whole new level of awesomeness, it'll handle any game like Crysis and run them with no problems or hiccups.

I use my processor mainly for console emulation, to put things into perspective i was running a 4Ghz E8400 and the Q9 clocks out 60fps solid where the E8400 would clock 40-55 unstable.
