Essential Upgrade for older (2006) Mac Pro

Upgrading these in a 2006 Mac Pro 1,1 was a good performance booster. Having built many custom PC's over the years this was fairly easy. One word of caution on a Mac Pro 1,1 is to be prepared to wrestle with the many metal and plastic covers, channels and shields. The plastic interlocks on mine were almost welded together from heat over the years, making them very difficult to remove. Upon reassembly, I used a VERY small amount of silicone grease on some of the tabs that were sticking. The other thing I would say is to go slow when reassembling so that you get all of the plastic tabs properly aligned before pushing the pieces together. Some of them are easy to miss. The multicore benchmark speed was essentially doubled from the previous Xeon 5760's.Read full review...

Awesome CPU for Mac Pro 1,1 and 2,1

Arrived fast than I expected. The CPUs look like new! Installing was a little pain but not too bad, due to its design, it requires more parts to be removed and loose as well to get to it. I cut my finger by sharp metal edge in the Ram enclosure area to take the second Heatsink sensor plug off. Other than that, it boost from my quad core 2.66GHz to 8 core 3GHZ! It perform well and I’m thrilled about this.Read full review...

Great Upgrade for 2006 Mac Pro (1,1)

CPU upgrade went well, I can actually use it to game with Windows now (old dual cores barely ran games and caused massive lag in rainbow six siege). Installation was Abit of a pain, but that's by Apple's design. Temps are good, system seems stable, and it's a definite noticeable difference in day-to-day tasks. If I ever get another '06 Mac pro, I'd definitely upgrade to these CPU's immediately.Read full review...

Work with workaround in Dell 690

I bought these because the Dell 690 manual said it coud handle the x52xx or x53xx series chips. When I first installed them I got an error message saying incompatable CPU. After researching online I found out you need the newer motherboard for them to work with the newer BIOS. However after reverting back to BIOS A01 they both work fine. The BIOS is not easy to find since dell only has A07 and A08 online. I think they want you to upgrade that is why they changed the BIOS.Read full review...

Nice apparent increase in speed

Installation of these CPUs is not for inexperienced. My hands have several small nicks from taking out various parts to reach place where CPUs are located in 2006 Mac Pro. And alignment is crucial. However, once in place, my short usage indicates that they provide a nice increase in computer speed. With software patch, the computer now identifies itself as second generation rather than first.Read full review...

Awesome to have my MacPro get more life out of it. Worth the upgrade

Did look up at the reviews and found out they are compatible MacPro1,1. Shipment was OK but safe. Was able to upgrade by following the Youtube video posted on MacForums. Few things were challenging but overall with patience it worked out for me. It has been a week since I upgraded and monitoring the CPUs closely with Hardware Monitor and iStats apps. Cranked the Fans up a little. Looks all normal and happy with the upgrade from 2 dual cores to 2 quad cores.
One of the CPU had scratch and was worried even after upgrading the Firmware showed only 1 processor. But after a reboot I was able to see 2 processors. Interesting why it requires 2 reboots to recognize the CPUs.
Overall I am happy to have upgraded to 8 cores now and temps are under control. MacPro1,1 has become MacPro 2,1 now and runs Yosemite and Mavericks without any major issues.

If your system can support them, you might be pleasantly surprised at such a bargain upgrade.

I installed these in my old-ish HP xw8400 Workstation to replace the dual-core 3.00 GHz Xeon SLAG9 CPUs that came with the machine.

I mostly only notice the performance boost when doing photographic editing (not a gamer). It's a BIG performance boost! (8 cores at 3.00 GHz vs. the original 4 cores at 3.00 GHz.)Read full review...

Super Couple Chips

So far, the two chips are going very well. The installation was very easy. Shipping is a bit expensive, but very quickly.

The only thing I have to complain about, is that was settled no billing in the delivery papers, and thus I was charged by the Swiss customs, the grand total (with enclosed invoice delivery costs are deducted from the value of goods).

I thank the guys from htcpsales12-us for the super Chips. Am well satisfied and would love to buy from you again.

Friendly greetings from Switzerland

MacPro booster spice!

Bought one set from a China supplier. DOA. Bought a replacement set from these folks: worked perfectly. Twice the speed for video rendering.

Caution: involved installation process, not related to this supplier but rather to the function itself. You should be comfortable with the possibility of killing your computer. Back up everything first!Read full review...
