This movie is one of the funniest ever made. It's sad that critics are not sophisticated enough to recognize farce, but it makes the joy of watching this movie every year.

The scene with Warren Beatty and Dustin Hoffman crawling across an obvious soundstage made up to look like the desert on their hands and knees, with buzzards stumbling in and out of the frame obviously being thrown back into the frame from either side by stagehands is so pathetic, it's hysterical, particularly when Hoffman announces that he's depressed. Definitely one of the funniest scenes.

Underrated masterpiece

Tarantino & Martin Scorsese both liked this movie. Scorsese said it was one of his favorite films. Beatty, Hoffman & Grodin each plays his role to perfection, tongue in cheek, so badly that it is terrific. I liked the movie the first time I saw it & each time since & was surprised that the majority of critics said I was not supposed to. It is a very clever movie where the song & songwriting are more than life. Very unique, very funny, very well done. Elaine May did not deserve the junk the critics gave her.
