The best movie of the 1940's!

There is so much to be said for the classic American motion picture, "It's A Wonderful Life", from 1946. In what is perhaps his finest cinematic work, director Frank Capra has brought to the screen (and into our hearts) a fabulous film that never seems to grow old. Jimmy Stewart is brilliant as George Bailey, a man who is down on his luck after his uncle Billy (Oscar-winner Thomas Mitchell) accidentally loses money intended for deposit into the bank. Realizing that he could serve jail time, George contemplates suicide. He is saved by his guardian angel Clarence (Henry Travers), who is close to earning his wings. He shows George exactly what his life would have been like had he never been born. Thus, George sees for himself an alternate world in Bedford Falls, his life-long hometown. No longer in his life are his wife Mary (Donna Reed), his children or any of his other family members or friends. Everyone that he encounters now does not even recognize him. This is beginning to frustrate George. He explains to Clarence about certain details that took place in his life, but Clarence makes mention about how these events never happened because George was never born, furthermore saying that he really had a wonderful life and throwing it away would be a mistake. George returns to his life, family and Bedford Falls, a changed man. And Clarence gets his wings. This movie has many heartwarming elements within it. The film earned 5 Oscar nominations: Best Picture, Actor (Stewart), Director (Capra), Film Editing and Sound Recording. It has since become a traditional Christmas classic. It's A Wonderful Life

I absolutely love this movie and no Christmas would be quite complete without seeing it. I think this movie makes us realize that no one lives or dies to themselves, but their lives affect others around them; in other words, "no man is an island". If you haven't seen this movie, you don't know what you're missing. My copy is in the original black and white. Somehow, watching the old black and white movies take me back to my childhood and leaves me with a warm feeling inside. I purchased this movie at a great low price and I'm glad that I can finally add it to my collection of "must see" movies each Christmas season.Read full review...

life is beautiful for all of us, we must find that within ourselves

Got tired of seeing this great Christmas Classic on television with all the commercials, so I treated myself this year and purchased it. What can you say about Jimmy Stewart and the rest of this great ensemble of actors. The movie and the theme of the movie never gets old. This is a timeless tale about love, faith, endurance and hope and the realization that the grass is rarely greener on the other side.Count our blessings and be grateful for what we have.it is one of the greatest underdog stories in history. My only regret with this movie is that Barrymore never gets his come-upings in this movie. But the movie is not about revenge, it is about redemption and the realization of self. If you haven't seen this movie, you are either a grump or a hermit.Read full review...

Famous story, we have purchased this vhs for every member of our family.
It makes you realize just how much one person can do in his/her lifetime.
You don't need to be in the savings & loans, like George, but just be a kind loving, caring person, one who helps along the way.

What a great old movie. Needed to add it to my movie collection. The story has such a great message to it. Great to see James Stuart in his younger days and what an actor.

The movie is perfect, the only thing was I got it after christmas. I was hoping to get it sooner. Its a wonderful life is my favorite movie and I only had it on dvd. The tv in the kitchen only has a vhs with it. It's ok that was two month ago.Read full review...

Awesome Movie!!! Old Christmas Classic!

I really wanted to show this old classic movie to my kids. I hope they enjoy it as much as i did when i re-watched it. I would recommend this movie for a family Christmas move anytime.
