Janome Hello Kitty 11706 Mechanical Sewing Machine

This is a small, lightweight, about 12 pounds, high quality basic machine that has a very nice straight stitch after you fine tune the tension and replace the plastic bobbins with metal ones. I bought it to take to quilting classes instead of my heavy, expensive, computerized Elna that always seems to fall over in the car. It has three stitch lengths, zigzag satin stitch, reverse, a buttonhole attachment, a light and you can remove the storage compartment which allows you to sew cuffs. I really like that it has snap on feet and that I can use the same ones that I already have for my Elna. I wish that I could lower the feed dogs on it and that it had a carry case. This is a slow, steady, fairly quiet machine that just happens to be packaged in a funky, neat green body with a kitty on it.....very cute. Many people bring antique Singer Featherweights to class, I think this could be the modern equivalent, maybe I'll start a trend.Read full review...

Seeing machine kid friendly

I knew that I wanted it to be a functioning machine. So that would cost money for additional parts. I have bought a power cord, foot pedal and bobbin cover(on backorder). It really because I like the Janome brand and Hello Kitty. I think I got what was advertised. I didn't anticipate the amount of money it would cost for the missing costs. It was a more than I expected. Read full review...

College Age 'Fibers' Major loves it!

Needed a machine for Christmas for my 20 yr old, who is a 'fibers' major at Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), living in a small dorm room with 2 other girls. I looked at expensive, fancy machines but knowing her unusual tastes and a like for 'simplicity', I was immediately intrigued when I spied this little jewel. I broke down and just asked her before I ordered it and she LOVED IT when she saw it online. She wasn't able to try it before going back to school, so I was concerned, but she recently emailed me that she has now used it several times and loves it. Says is sews really easily and was very easy to figure out. She also told me she got something tangled in the bobbin area and was able to remove the bobbin assembly and put it back very easily and successfully. She loves its size and it is cute as can be. Very satisfied.Read full review...

Janome Hello Kitty Machine

This machine is a light weight machine. It has a consistant stitch and a very nice button hole for such a small machine. I have used it on many different fabrics and have no problems with it. I recommend it to my beginning sewing class as a good basic starter machine. It is tough enough to sew through two layers of cotton duck and it can sew very light fabrics as well. The two machines I have used needed a little tension adjustment on the bobbin to keep the zigzag from puckering, but that is a quick easy adjustment that needs to be done to all machines periodically. I think this little machine is one of the best of its class around. It is definitely a no frills machine. It isn't even close to as fast as my big machine, but it isn't as slow as I expected from a little machine. It has enough stitches to cover all the basic sewing needs, but it will not do any fancy stitches. It only has 3 lengths of straight stitch, 3 width zigzag, a couple of blind stitches and a button hole series. The button hole series is not automatic, but it makes nice even button holes. We have found that if you don't get the bobbin in quite tight enough it tends to make a knot of thread under the fabric, but this can be prevented by making sure the bobbin case is seated correctly. All in all, this is a good little machine. I would recommend it to anyone who needs a little kick about machine and doesn't need all the fancy stuff that comes with a full size machine. I would buy this one over a machine that has more stitches in the same price range. You are getting better quality, but less features.Read full review...

Exactly what I wanted

I grew up using a Kenmore Mini Ultra, and when it broke (from knocking it off a table; it was reliable with heavy use for eleven years) I struggled to replace it. The Janome is the same machine in a different casing.

It's a smaller size sewing machine than the standard. The bobbin is a forward loading rather than a drop in. Neither of these, in my opinion, make this machine difficult to use. The stitching options available are more than sufficient for a wide variety of uses, and it is even capable of making buttonholes. I've sewed corset boning, invisible zippers, and huge ruffled skirts on this machine.

A great sewing machine.

This is a great little sewing machine for a beginner to learn to sew on. It is also very lightweight and I'll be carrying it Back East to teach my granddaughter to sew on it. It's so cute, too, with Hello Kitty on the base and is so colorful. I was surprised by the features. Anyone could use this machine if they don't want to do all the fancy stuff that costs so much on sewing machines now days. I was really surprised by the quality of such a reasonably priced machine. Glad it was offered.Read full review...

Great Little Machine - Works as Well as Reg. Size

I bought this Janome Hello Kitty Sewing Machine for my 7-year-old Granddaughter for Christmas. I wanted something that had more functionality and was a bit tougher than a toy machine. This machine met my expectations and then some. First of all I love the color - the green is beautiful. The sewing - My Granddaughter and I were able to make a dress for her American Girl doll using just this machine and we both found it very easy to use. It does a great job - the stitching is strong and the machine works great!!! I know it's a reconditioned item but you would never know. We love it and we can't wait to use it to make more Doll clothes/craft items etc.Read full review...

OK buy for the money I paid

This is a cute little sewing machine perfect for a beginner. It is easy to use and anyone can learn how to sew with it. Instructions are very simple and clear. Stitches are not uniform no matter how many times I change the tension. It goes very fast so you have to put very little pressure with your foot. The decorative stitches are all variations of the zig-zag stitch, nothing fancy.Read full review...

Disappointed

I have several Janome machines and have always been pleased with the quality and how well they worked (for their small size).

This particular machine has a similar "body" as the Janome Golds BUT there is no thread cutter and the thread tension (despite adjusting) is subpar (lots of loops on the bottom, despite tightening the top tension).

The price was right, but would not buy this one again.
