Regarding Kelley's Heroes, it's a good, engaging WW2 comedy/drama with an all-star cast of frontline soldiers who decide to use their 3-day R&R break to try and hijack a shipment of gold held in a bank behind enemy lines. Nit-pickers won't like the out of place and time pseudo-hippie Sutherland, or the unlikelihood of any number of scenes, but the rest of us will thoroughly enjoy rooting for everyone to make it through the crazy ride to see if they can make it happen.

Great movies that are war classics

Great acting by Clint Eastwood as usual. Excellent video quality in Blu Ray from two classic war films from the 70's and 80's.

Eastwood plays Kelly, a wonderful leader of several soldiers or 'heroes' who engage the Germans in a humorous drama.

'Where Eagles Dare' one of the best WWII movies filmed, with great suspense, action and bravery. Eastwood and Richard Burton put on outstanding performances. Highly recommended.

This is just a review for "Where Eagles Dare" just so you know...

An American general has been captured and is being held prisoner in a Nazi castle that is halfway up a mountain, it's also being guarded by 600 or so German soldiers, oh yeah and the only way to access it is via cable car. Can a group of six men defy the odds and save the day? and one more thing, there may, or may not, be a traitor in their midst. Easy-peasy when you have Clint Eastwood on your side!

The plot of this classic movie is very good (and at times VERY confusing) I have no problem with that at all, I did have numerous problems with other aspects of the film. The running time at over TWO AND A HALF HOURS is waaaaay too long, two hours max would have worked, 110 minutes would have been even better. Also, there is the "suspension of disbelief" factor. So how can I complain about this movie when I love action flicks like "A-Team" and "Shoot em Up"? Well, the difference is those movies say "look at me! I am outrageously over the top! don't take me seriously!" but movies like "Where Eagles Dare" stand proudly, tell a REAL story and expect you to take everything very seriously indeed.

Ignore the fact that Clint Eastwood can take out half of the German army with one machine gun, or that you can blow up a cable car and leave the cables intact, or even the that the two main characters seem to carry enough dynamite around with them to blow up half of Europe. It also suffers from "video game" syndrome (and that was years before video games arrived!) in the way that the director is of the belief that if you shoot something for long enough, it will explode. A jeep? A Small tank? no problem, as long as the hero shoots at it, it will go BOOM killing everyone inside (of course the Nazis can't hit a barn door with their shots)

I should have enjoyed this much more than I did, but the running time really killed it for me, instead of being excited, I was bored and that is not good when you have great performances from Clint Eastwood and Richard Burton. Sometimes, less is more.Read full review...

2 great movies at 1 low price

Two of Clint Eastwood's best WWII movies for one low price. The on location scenery of Where Eagles Dare is spectacular. Richard Burton is a big plus. Ok, hippies in WWII you just have to go with, but Kelly's Heroes is one of my favorite Eastwood movies. Don Rickles is his usual lovable self.

THIS TWO DISC SET IS WELL DONE AND THE AUDIO IS GREAT. MORE AND MORE OLDER BLU RAY CONVERSIONS ARE NOT REALLY THAT MUCH BETTER THAN THE DVD VERSION. THIS IS TRUE WITH'' MASTER AND COMMANDER'' AND ROBIN HOOD ''PRINCE OF THEIVES''. THEY ARE ONLY MARGINALLY BETTER PICTURE WISE COMPARED TO THE DVD.KELLYS HEROES AND WHERE EAGLES DARE ARE REALLY WELL DONE ON THE TRANSFER. THE AUDIO IS GREAT TOO BEING LOSSLESS OR NOT COMPRESSED.
