Edgy, dark--and way too intelligent for regular TV

KINGPIN, along with ACTION! (a comedy with Jay Mohr), did not last long on TV, and for the same reason.

Despite that KINGPIN was a gangster drama and ACTION! a comedy, they were both well-written, had great actors and good cinematography, but were way too edgy and dark to survive outside of premium cable.

Can anyone imagine the brilliant DEADWOOD (even without the the bad language) making it past the second episode on regular TV? Not way!

What mainstream America finds funny are happy sitcoms such as EVERYBODY LOVES RAYMOND. What passes for good drama are police procedurals with happy endings, such as LAW & ORDER. And KINGPIN ain't safe, and the people aren't nice, and they get away with murder--literally. Which I find closer to the truth and therefore, interesting to watch.Read full review...

Kingpin

Kingpin is an excellent series that alot of dvd viewer's don't know about. It's in the same catorgory as the godfather,goodfellas 7 SCARFACE, just not with as much violence shown, i think it was a cbs tv movie, but it still is a little too much 4 a younger child. it does have it';s violence & nudity you probaley should watch before letting someone younger than16 to view! a great series all in all though! if you haven't seen this dvd i don';t think you'll be deapointed @ all!! A new twist on an old story

I bought it because I'm have an obsession with anything having to do with the Mexican actor, Eduardo Palomo and even thought he doesn't show up until the third episode the drama of a Mexican mob family was very appealing.
I thought the plot was very well thought out and the actors made each seen work, my favorite was a prison seen but I won't go much into detail. I'm surprised that it wasn't picked up for additional episodes but I guess that network tv was not prepared for a such in your face drama with a dominant Spanish cast.Read full review...

You must buy!!!

I had seen this mini series when it first came out and had forgotten the name and finally after researching I found it again! It is so bad-ass and I loved every single part of it. It has it's share of violence and nudity but it is showing reality of it all. I only wish they had continued it. I would have loved to see what would happen next. Wow!
