Best Lego Set to stimulate young minds.

A wonderful product that uses pictures to explain how to assemble it. This is great and bad. Great because it allows youngsters whose reading is not that great to proceed with assembling the Legos. Bad because adults will sometimes get a little frustrated trying to understand what the pictures are telling them. Hint: Let your little ones help you figure it out! You both will form great memories from this!

This Lego set is remarkable in that it has sophisticated electronics in it. Color and distance sensors, blue tooth controlled motors, pitch sensors...really quite remarkable for something that a 7 year old can put together. Resist putting it together for them though. Let them think it through. It takes patience (something I'm not good at) but at the end when they proudly proclaim "I DID IT!" you will be glad you held back doing it for them.

Great Learning Tool

I introduced my 8 year old son to Scratch recently, and wanted to start slow. He kept wanting to move ahead before getting the basics down. After a while, he said "Dad, maybe we could look into LEGO Boost." I had already ordered Boost, because I thought that might be a better way to start coding with faster results. He was pumped when it came, and dove right in. With the app, there is a great mix of fixed features, as well as ways to create outside the 5 different builds of the Boost set. YouTube offers lots of great ideas for new builds as well as spicing up sets we already had (i.e. one of the Ninjago dragons). I would recommend Boost to anyone who wants to add a neat new dimension to their LEGO tool box - especially to those who want to introduce their child to coding. Read full review...

LEGO BOOST 17101 Review - the good and the bad

The LEGO BOOST is an incredible value. It provides a great building experience for anyone who has assembled complex Lego kits of several hundred pieces. The LEGO BOOST app provides a quick path to bringing the BOOST creations alive. Unfortunately, as a way to learn how to program robots, it is worse than useless. Mindlessly following the app programming directions teaches one absolutely nothing about programming. This is too bad because the LEGO "move hub" in conjunction with the app's advanced programming capabilities make this an exceptional robotics learning tool for middle school age students. In order to take advantage of all the BOOST has to offer you need a guide. Fortunately Danielle Benedetteli has written "The LEGO BOOST Activity Book" which (like almost everything) is available on Amazon. This book provides a comprehensive guide to building and programming LEGO BOOST creations. So before you give it away, throw it away or try to sell it on eBay with missing parts consider purchasing the LEGO BOOST Activity Book and giving it a second chance. But be forewarned, this book is not "Robots for Dummies". Unless you have a little programing experience it may not be your cup of tea. Good luck, and happy building.Read full review...

Durable and entertaining

Product is easy to assemble for the age recommended and inspires creativity for those interested in early electronics/robotics. The five designs are not overly complicated and the interaction between tablet and robot are easy to manage. Kids find the fact that it senses movement really cool. I bought this for my daughter instead of my son (they are twins) and she was fascinated by the possibilities with this set. Read full review...

Great starter robotics kit

My 8-year-old son loves Legos and just finished up a one week robotics and coding camp, so I was looking for something that would keep his interest going for the rest of the summer and lead into joining the Lego Robotics team once school started up again. The Lego Boost kit was the same price as a week of camp, and can be built into 5 different projects using the instructions in the app as well as many other smaller configurations using two extra books on the system that I picked up separately. My son built the main robot project right away and loves it so much that he hasn't tried the others yet, but so far it's been a fantastic buy. I do wish that Lego had provided a printed set of instructions instead of relying solely on the Android and IOS apps to deliver them, but that's my only minor quibble.Read full review...

great toy, but the app (on Android) is sluggish

Great product
It is quite hard to build one of the toys after disassembling any previously built ones, because you'll need to sort all the pieces and then look for them in your sorted piles. Make sure to develop a sorting system which makes it easier to look for the pieces.
We have started building the cat as our first project and had to look for the parts in all bags, based on their pictures in the app (it doesn't tell you which plastic bag has the piece you need.
Overall - great toy, but the app (on Android) is sluggish.

Great Learning Toy

My daughter loves it. At seven years old she had played block programming games on a tablet but seeing the robot follow her program was much more gratifying.
My recommendation: go to a Home Depot or Lowe's and buy a tool organizer for $15. It's a good investment to keep the blocks organized. Read full review...
