Lack of info on CD to USB even on line

Bought this because I wanted music in my workshop but didn't want to have to change CD's all the time. The USB drive was a feature I had never seen on a DVD player, jumped on this, especially at that price. I have been quite frustrated though trying to transfer from CD to USB. Finally gave up and just copy at X1 speed. Accidentally found X4 once, could not get back to it. Instructions in box and on line don't tell you much about the copying process. 200 songs at standard speed is taking a while! If I can figure out how to copy CD's to USB on my desktop in MP3 format that is how I'll do my next USB drive. Haven't connected to my shop receiver yet but have deleted a couple songs and listened to some on my desktop. Sounds good at max MP3 codex which should be close or better than XM was. Only video observed was for the copying process which I did on my small kitchen television. Readable, no issues there.Read full review...

USB - out DO NOT WORK.

I purchased dp132 as “Used item grade 'A' condition - may show minimal signs of used fully tested, original package ” from dannyp809. However "USB Direct Recording" from CD do not work. That feature was the only reason I bought dp 132. So I am completely unhappy with that purchase.Read full review...

Works fine, but...

I bought this to be a CD and usb music player. I'm happy with the sound quality, but I found out the usb function only works when the DVD feature is connected. Also, as a CD player, the machine has mo track display, so you never know what song is playing.

Overall, the sound quality is fine, but in light of the above, I'm not pleased with this purchase.

Basic DVD player, limited connectivity options, severely outdated

This LG DVD player is an inexpensive DVD player that would seem outdated even if it were released 15 years ago (this review was written July 2016, to put the time-frame into perspective). It works well as a standard DVD player, although it is limited in its output capabilities since it only has composite video out (the standard yellow/white/red cables offering the worst available picture quality). Due to that, video output varies from generally acceptable to blurry and grainy. A lot of this also depends on what you are watching and the TV it is connected to: lower resolution HDTVs from 720p to 1080p will look decent whereas any TV with a higher resolution will probably look much worse. The video output on the DVD player itself will always be 480i (the lowest resolution for home video) which means the picture will look worse the higher your display's resolution is. Should you own an old CRT TV or EDTV from decades ago then you're in luck as those are the perfect display for this DVD player and will be the best match for its video output.

Something else to keep in mind is that this is just a DVD player -- it lacks Blu-ray playback capabilities. Anyone wishing to play Blu-ray discs will need to spend extra money on another device that will take up both shelf space and an additional video input on their TV. If you're purchasing this for just DVDs alone then it will do the job fine. But if this is going to be used for your main TV or in your home theater it might be worth considering a full fledged Blu-ray player as they are backwards compatible with DVDs, have HDMI outputs for higher resolution TVs, and will usually upscale lower-resolution DVDs to give you better image quality. A quick search reveals several Blu-ray players costing only $5-$10 more that offer all those features and more to make the extra cost worth it (the Samsung BD-J5100, for example, is not much more expensive but is well worth the purchase for someone seeking a capable home entertainment player on a budget).

The build quality for this player seems solid and it will likely hold up well to years of use. Oddly, the actual unit itself lacks a play button. Only a power button and eject button are included, meaning you will depend entirely on the remote for navigating menus and starting movies. This oversight might become problematic if the remote becomes misplaced; a scenario that is very plausible if there are younger kids using this DVD player. Losing the remote essentially means losing functionality of the entire device until it is found or replaced. This unit isn't an exception, either, as it seems LG frequently excludes play buttons on their playback devices (BP-125, BP-155, BP-350, and BPM-25 to name a few).

Additionally, a feature that seems to have created some confusion about this DVD player is its USB Direct recording. A frequently recurring question is whether this feature extends to recording video from DVDs to an attached USB drive, and the answer is a simple no. The USB Direct recording works only to record music or audio from a CD to an attached USB drive. Some advertisers and sellers are vague about this feature and subtly imply that it will also rip video to a flash drive. Let's clear that up right now: it will not do that no matter how nicely you ask it to. The USB drive can be used to play music, videos and pictures from an installed USB drive. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to work with drives larger 32GB and only certain file formats are recognized by the unit.

Overall this is a capable, albeit modest, DVD player that does exactly what it is intended to do: play DVDs. The video output is acceptable, if somewhat archaic, and the USB drive is handy for playing back digital files and moving music from a CD to a digital drive without using a computer. It almost seems silly that LG didn't at least include component connectivity for progressive scan playback as it would have vastly improved the video quality and couldn't have increased the cost by much. As it is, there are plenty of other comparably priced options available that include HDMI connectivity and upscaling capability to help you get the most out of your DVDs. This is an alright DVD player to use as a back-up device or in a kid's playroom but, considering how many superior alternatives there are in this price range, it is hard to recommend this for your main DVD player.

Works great! Great for making mp3's from CD's.

First off... I wanted to "Correct" a couple other reviews I saw on this player. Evidently they don't think the USB to CD work? I guess they just don't know how to operate this DVD player or they bought a defective DVD player. I bought 5 units... Yes! 5 units because I love the CD to USB feature so much! It works perfectly fine! & I use the 4X transfer all the time but I have noticed that feature is a little different from each model. In any case... This DVD player is great & I have 2 different DVD players hooked up playing 24/7 music off the MP3's transferred from my CD's. One plays music outside... The other plays music inside the house. Also... Better yet... You can also download MP3's off your smart phone or computer & play those through this unit as well. I have a mix going from downloads & ones that I transferred! A+++ Unit! I highly reccomend if you want to easily make mp3's from your CD's!Read full review...

Great buy

This is a great value for the money. It is easy to connect and set up. I have it connected to my 4k TV and was able to watch old TV shows (Black and White) in full screen with great clarity. The sound coming out of the TV was excellent. I am very pleased with the unit. It takes only a few seconds to start the menu from turning the drive on and inserting a disk. I haven't used the USB feature at this time but it does what I want the way I want it too. Who can ask for more?Read full review...

Can`t Beat This One!

I purchased this same model 9 years ago, then one night, all of a sudden......stopped working. I use this solely to play my old time radio shows that are on MP3 formatted discs. Especially when I am going to sleep and will run all through the night for many hours. No manufacturer produces these models for that many years. Bought another high quality brand that said it played the MP3 format discs but didn`t. So thrilled that I found this same one on ebay. Has stood the test of time for me. To get so much enjoyment for that many years and for a product for less than $40.00, you can`t beat it!Read full review...

BEST DVD PLAYER FOR THE $

I BOUGHT ONE OF THESE LG DVD PLAYERS LAST YEAR FROM WALMART. I LOOKED AT MANY DIFFERENT BRANDS BEFORE I PICKED THIS ONE. FOR THE MONEY, YOU WILL NOT FIND A BETTER ONE. THE MAIN REASON IS BECAUSE IT PLAYS PAL FORMAT AS WELL AS NTSC. IF YOU DON'T KNOW WHAT THIS MEANS, YOU CAN FIND ROCK CONCERTS RECORDED IN PAL FORMAT MUCH CHEAPER. MOST DVD PLAYERS DO NOT PLAY THE PAL FORMAT. PLUS THIS ONE HAS A USB PORT, SO YOU CAN DOWNLOAD MUSIC FROM CD'S TO USB STICK. WHEN I SAW THIS ONE FOR $19, FREE SHIP, I BOUGHT IT IN CASE MY FIRST ONE GOES DOWN. PLUS, I CAN PASS IT DOWN TO MY GRANDSONS SO THEY CAN ENJOY ALL MY CD'S, AND DVD'S IN THE FUTURE. WHEN PEOPLE REALIZE HOW POOR THE QUALITY OF MP3'S ARE, I THINK THEY WILL GO BACK TO THE HIGHER QUALITY OF CD'S, AND DVD'S!! PEACE OUT!!Read full review...
