DVD and VHS player combo

I have used both the DVD and VHS functions and they both work well. I like to watch vintage cartoons that only come in VHS format, so am glad to have that option. I also like that it came with a remote. The owners manual is on a DVD and I've yet to read it (but I plan to). I think this machine records as well so that's a nice feature. So far, very happy with purchase.Read full review...

Better than nothing.

I already have two of them. They do need to go into the shop for cleaning and repair, from time to time, because it is no longer legal to buy a new VCR/DVD combo recorder in the U.S. Most other countries still sell them new.
Also, after 6 years, both of them have had an issue with parts of the board needing replacing, because pieces on it just wear out or go bad over time.
The reason I have them is because I do not have cable or satellite, or any other sort of pay TV. Invariably, over-the-air broadcast programs either have nothing good on, or have two or more good shows at the same time. So, I watch one and record one or two others on VHS tape. The tape is not as sharp as HD TV, but it is better than nothing. However, sometimes my schedule is so hectic that I may have 15 or more shows on tape waiting to be seen. As such, free standing DVRs are of now use, because most, even if good, will only hold about 5 shows. I have also used the units to dub some old, personal VHS tapes to DVD, because tapes will deteriorate over time and there are some memories that I want to save forever.

DVD/VCR Combo

The unit was easy to hook-up. The tuner is excellent. The playback features are very good. The DVD recording is very good. The remote is easy to use. The only draw-back is the tuning with the remote for the channels. You have to use the up/down button instead of the numbers. Not bad but takes getting use to.Read full review...

Outstanding device and functionality *****

I had an LG DVD CD / VHS Combo unit before and Loved it. I wore it out using all features and functions, so I bought a new one….the love continues.

LG VHS / DVD Recorder

It's more sophisticated than the defunct Panasonic unit that it replaced. I am still getting used to it but it was easy to set up and plays my tapes and dvds well on my HD TV, which was my primary purpose for it. Looking forward to seeing what else it can do.Read full review...

Get it while you can!

This is essentially identical to the JVC DR-MV150 and 100. Just has a different case that says LG. The menus are a little bit different, perhaps a bit better, and if you like to watch and record things over the air it has a great digital tuner, the image and sound quality are superb, if you want to transfer your old VHS tapes to DVD, it does this brilliantly. There's probably a way to record things from your cable TV or DVR, but I haven't tried this yet.
If you buy it from the people who have refurbished it to manufacturer's standards, so much the better -- it will be better than brand new.

Easy set up, quality recordings, easy to use.

Living rural, without internet, utilizing antenna TV, I so very much appreciate the availability of a refurbished VCR / DVD Recorder with built in tuner. The LG RC897T is a fine unit, easy to set up and use. I most often record programs to watch at another time, so I am especially appreciative of how easy it is to do so.Read full review...

Thanks LG

Seems to work well.
I record over the air tv.
With the digital tuner I can record different channels at different times, like the old vcr.
Plus I can copy vhs tapes to dvd.
And no subscriptions. It's greatRead full review...
