"Good Phone for you basic needs"

Pros: Good feature set for non-smartphone with email, Facebook, Twitter, Opera Mini, and has touchscreen; touchscreen is pretty accurate; 3G is definite plus; bubble-style texting interface is handy; includes predictive text feature for a decent keyboard.

Cons: Touchscreen can be a pain when scrolling through menus; Hello UI hard to get to, therefore kind of useless; keyboard layout not great; game selection sucks unless you are willing to pay; data plan priced like smartphone; Sprint's network; camcorder

Summary: Verizon has its Envs and Sprint has its Rumors. LG and Verizon obviously have a decent partnership, because the Rumor Touch is not the Env Touch. However, the Env Touch was an editor's choice, so it's pretty hard to be as great. That being said, the Rumor Touch is pretty decent in its own right.

User Interface (Touchscreen):

The touchscreen is not bad for a resistive one, but it is still resistive. Scrolling through menus often results in the accidental selecting of an icon, and keep your fingernails long. All in all, though, it is responsive enough for all but those who have been using capacitive screens since 2007. And let's face it, if you have been using capacitive screens since '07, you're probably not going to buy this phone anyway.

Overall, the UI is simple enough to understand and navigate, and the menus are easily customizable in an intuitive and simple way. The Hello UI is cool, but it's really hard to get to, and so I, for one, never use it, which is a real shame because it is a great concept, just poorly executed. Still, BREW (Qualcomm's OS, used on the phone) is simple and straightforward and will appeal to the heavy texter, and even the average one.

Features

The Rumor Touch has a great feature set for the most part, with dedicated Google Maps, email, Twitter, and Facebook apps. It also has both a default browser and the excellent Opera Mini, which is speedy and easy to use and great over a 3G connection. The email app is far from spectacular, and only works with Yahoo! and Gmail (so I couldn't hook up my Verizon account), but hey, it's there, and most people I know use Yahoo! and Gmail anyway. Still, it's really not a Blackberry. The Twitter and Facebook apps are similar to the email in that they are far for great, but they're there and that's a bonus any day on a feature phone (P.S.--I don't use Facebook and Twitter, so I really haven't used them except to see what they were--you should get a second opinion on them.). Google Maps is an awesome app that works as a GPS; it's kind of slow, but it will help if you are completely lost and need help, which is really what it's supposed to do.

Media

There is a microSD slot on the phone that can support up to 32gb microSD cards, so if you use it, you can put all the music on it you want, provided you buy the card. The multimedia is not bad. Sound quality is good, and videos are pretty much what you would expect from a 240x400 screen--kind of watchable.

Wrap-up

There was really nothing about this phone that really blew me away, but there was nothing that made me cringe either. The good things about this phone definitely outweigh the bad, and the few bad things are really mostly minor and hardly deal-breakers.

For everyone except heavy smartphone users, this phone will be great.

Good Starter Phone

I love this phone!! Great for texting. This phone is very easy to navigate through. The slide out QWERTY keyboard makes texting very easy. The only problem with the keyboard is the top row of letters is very close to the numbers. For example: when I type the word very, it comes out as very6. Thats the only problem I notced with the keyboard. Calling is dificult especially when comes to ending your call. Touch screen is not great but works ok. One of the phones pros are when you recieve a text message or voice mail a bubble will appear on the home screen and tell you who the message is from and show part of the message. Love the camera- photos always come out great. Video camera is a nice feature and has pretty good sound quality. Overall the phone is great and I would definitely recommend it for a good starter phone.
(updated September 24,2011) I have had my rumor touch since June and had to get a replacement because the touch screen would not work correctly. The person who worked their said that with this particular phone, to much exposure to the sun can mess up the touch screen. Although I was able to get a new one for free through our phone plan, I was rather disappionted with the touch screen quality.

Overall really good phone and it is not to complicated.

I bought this phone because my old phone got wet and stopped working, and decided to upgrade to a touchscreen phone. Even though I wanted an upgrade to a touchscreen, I didn't want something to complicated. I really enjoy the bluetooth capability where I can send ringtones, photos, and etc. It also has a qwerty keyboard which the keys isn't to crowded. The tough screen isn't so bad, its not glitchy like other phones but sometimes can be unresponsive. Texting can be annoying at times, especially when you're done texting and you have to press done and then send. And if your signal fails in the middle of a text and fails to send, instead of going right back to the failed message and sending it from there, it goes to the home screen where you there is a five step process to send that text again. Also the lock screen isn't password protected, all you have to do is slide it to the left or right. If you want it password protected before you lock your screen you have to go to settings and the press lock screen every time you want it password protected, which is annoying.Read full review...

GREAT phone for texting! :)

I needed a phone to replace the broken one i had, and this was a great replacement. I like the quick facebook option as well as the bubble chat text feature to let me know when ive missed a text message, i do not like how you cannot have any apps on your main screen just the simple home feature. the keypad was a bit difficult getting use to i had a palm centro so im used to using smaller keys but this one typed several other letters opposed to the one i was trying to type. other than that the phone is a great quick replacement/upgrade.Read full review...

Quality product and service!

I dropped and broke a newer LG G2 phone and needed a replacement FAST as I was traveling out-of-state. I have to admit, it took some getting used to again, but I quickly remembered why I loved my Rumor four yrs ago! It's a great cell phone, you can learn to use it quickly and it's user friendly. If you're looking for a phone that texts and emails, I don't believe there's a better phone out there than this one....why they stopped selling it is beyond me. Although this phone has ALL the bells and whistles, the screen size is too small for me to utilize some of it's other features like the internet. Which works great by the way, but my eyes just can't adjust to the screen! Too bad, I really love this phone!
If you have an opportunity to buy this phone, BUY IT NOW!!! The seller, Greg, was awesome to work with too. He had the Rumor mailed overnight to me just hours after I left him a question on this site, and the phone in my hand the very next day! He was a treasure to work with and had loads of helpful information for me.
I'm saving $10 a month on my phone bill right now and am not in any hurry to replace my G2. I'm perfectly happy with my new Rumor!

Great, Easy to Use Phone

Looking for a replacement after my current sprint phone was damaged in auto accident. Was also looking to remove unneeded services from my phone so this works great. Wanted a phone with text capability and this is a nice "basic" option as sprint calls it now...
Someone t-boned me while reading his email on a sunday morning, 26 weeks pregnant - this phone is just what I was looking for to replace my other phone.

LG Rumor Touch

I bought my Rumor Touch because I wanted a new phone that fit my needs, but not too complicated. So far, I am very happy with the simple, yet effecient function of this phone. Super easy to text,or attatch a picture to a message. One touch social networking,is a breeze. I linked my E-MAIL to it, and I can check it with one click also. I delete useless E-mails throughout the day,and I don't have a full box at night. It has a full Q-WERTY slide out keyboard, and it seems to be a lot tougher than most true smart phones. It takea a nice picture,no flash though. I would reccommend this for an entry level smart phone,or if you don't need a $400 phone. I am very happy with it. It is a solid, well made phone from LG. I have several other LG products in my home,so I went with an LG phone, and I am glad I did.Read full review...

Great phone, Great value for your money!

I just love it, better and faster than the Instinct s30 I replaced. The screen is actually more sensitive and vibrates every time I touch it, didn't took me long to figure this phone out. And the best part of it, there will be times that I can't afford the family data plan($129.99), with this phone, I can easily switch to a cheaper talk plan ($69.99) anytime with no problem at all. Unlike some other smart phone, you're stuck with with the plan. My husband only use it for calls but I'm very tech savvy, I use web, social networking , navigation & all other apps all the time. Will probably use this phone for a long time until it breaks on me. By the way, I'm a cheapskate too, not ready to spend a lot of money to buy other phone that have the same functionality as this one. I watch my money very close!Read full review...

give it a 4 out of 5.

A very easy to use phone, however the quirk with this phone is it needs to be shut off and on to get text messages to work. It is random and doesn't always happen, but an inconvenience none the less.
I like the phone. It takes nice pictures and the features are easy to understand and use.

LG Rumor Touch (Sprint)

When you can't afford a real expensive touch screen phone plus you hate that most touch screen phones are really huge. This LG RUMOR Touch is the answer. The touch sensitivity isn't fantastic, but it works. Love that it's smaller than most touch screen phone. and of course the slide out keyboard rocks!Read full review...
