Hofner 500/1 (Beatle Bass)

Used the Thomastik infiend's for years, now at $100.00 per set, I can buy three sets of Labella's for that price. They sound excellent, are specifically designed for Hofners (as anyone knows who owns one, the tuners have smaller holes) standard generic flats are not tapered to fit the thru the tuner holes. Unless you can afford a 'C' note when changing strings, the Labella's are the BEST alternative out there.Read full review...

Not too happy.

Wrong bass strings were sent initially. I contacted the company. They said they would mail me the correct ones. I even offered, and did, mail them back their strings (the wrong ones), 1st class USPS, at my cost, last Monday.

With that mind, today, I got the correct strings and instead of finding a correct size bubble-envelope to put them in, they folded the string package to make it fit in a too-small envelope. And, the G string was kinked. So, I don't know if it's permanently damaged ... I'll have to string my bass and see.

LAME!

The perfect string for the Hofner violin bass

This string is made for the Hofner Violin Bass guitar, which is a MEDIUM scale guitar. Most people buy long strings and cut them down or short strings only to find the taper is before the nut on the played side. Both are problemmatic. This string, being the correct string, is a super easy install and gives the correct harmonics and intonation. The flatwound string also allows better setup and playability, which can be an issue with round wounds. I will never use any other string on a Hofner violin bass. It surprises me that Hofner sells these with round wound strings. First thing I do is replace them with these La Bella Flats.Read full review...

Great Choice for Hofner Violin Bass!

I had purchased these strings for my Hofner contemporary, as it previously had round wounds on it. I was looking for a less brighter tone, closer to the German violin bass. Also went to a lighter gauge, as the original strings were .50 - .100. Quite a difference in sound a lot mellower, warmer, sound that I was searching for. Not identical to its German counterpart, but close enough. Changing the gauge from .50 to .39 was very much to my liking, as well as a smoother feel with flatwounds as oppose to the rounds. A little easier on the fingers and allowing for faster movement up and down the neck. Shortly after the string change on my HCT, I came across a '63 RI. It already had the Labella flats installed recently, so with both basses I'm good to go! Very much satisfied with the feel and sound of these strings. Labella definitely had Hofner in mind with these strings. I wouldn't hesitate to purchase these strings again. Cheers!Read full review...

New strings for an old bass

Great strings for my old Hofner bass. I bought in 1966 and used it extensively trough the 60's and 70's. Its been sitting since then so I decided to give it a treat with new strings.. What a difference, the perfect strings for it. Sound is great and feel awesome.Read full review...

Nice!

I recently bought a cheap Hofner Violin Body Bass and it was delivered with round wound strings. After playing it a bit and liking the sound/feel of it I decided to get some authentic flat wound strings. What a difference it makes to both the sound and the feel. Certainly worth the time, expense and effort to put the flats on it :)Read full review...

Not a Good thing for Ignition Basses

These don't really work well with the low end Ignition Hofner bass because the high string tension tends to pull the neck to a too concave position which cant be corrected with the truss rod. This is because the Ignition basses don't have a center block. I took them off and put them on an sg bass copy and they are good there. Probably ok with Contemporary Hofner basses because they have a center block.Read full review...

Transformative!

Turned my Hofner HCT bass into a funk and soul machine instantly. Great price and the fit and tension are perfect. They feel incredible, incomparably smooth and supple too.
