If you like a little comedy with your heavenly host...

This was one of the funniest and most fun books I've ever read! If you are devout in your belief and spoiling for a fight, this one might not be for you. If however you have a sense of humor and don't mind a little fun being poked at Jesus (and friends), this is quite the enjoyable romp. And if you aren't particularly religious or if you aren't up on your Christian beliefs, you may want to keep Wikipedia nearby to help explain some of the background jokes. Regardless, I don't think you can go wrong with this joyful endeavor from Christopher Moore about the missing years in the life Jesus of Nazareth.
Almost from page 1 there is humor that will make you laugh out loud. The story is at times insightful, wise, inventive, and downright adventurous! Mr. Moore tells an engaging story with a main character who is known to most people, but takes him on an engaging thrill ride that many would not expect. He takes a character who is understood to be divine and infuses him with humanity and humor!
Well written and seemingly well researched, Mr. Moore hits it out of the park with this one.

A Truly Hilarous, Intelligent, Irreverent Novel

Christopher Moore introduces the reader to the boy Jesus- "Joshua" according to his best friend Biff- who is discovered repeatedly resurrecting a lizard, by sticking it in his mouth; and all of this just to entertain his little brother James. Thus begins a hilarious and sometimes irreverent novel which will offend orthodox Christians, but certainly entertain the rest of us.

Moore argues tongue-in-cheek, early in his narrative, that the birth of Jesus has been well-chronicled, as have his works and teachings AFTER the age of thirty. But no one knows about the early life of the Son of God, the missing years; except Biff, the Messiah's best friend, who has been resurrected by an angel to write another gospel. The story Biff tells is miraculous: filled with extraordinary journeys, magic, healings, kung fu, corpse re-animations, demons, and, oddly enough, hot women.

Moore's writing style is a bizarre mix of serious and sometimes brutal historical fiction laced with dark humor, wordplay, in-jokes that only a person acquainted with the gospels is liable to get, and sparkling one-liners worthy of any stand-up comedian.

Lamb is laugh-out-loud funny. It teeters on the edge of being sacreligious, but somehow manages to keep from falling off the razor's edge, into the abyss. If you want a wild ride into the wilderness between the shepherds at the manger and the baptism in the Jordan, this is the perfect comedic vehicle for you.

"Right thinking Christian" loves this book!

Having read several previous books by Mr. Moore, I couldn't wait to read this one; it did not dissapoint. Although I agree that moore's humor could make the "uptight bible thumpers" cringe, I don't understand how anyone could deny that he gives his "Joshua" a fun and human side. Biff's all too human antics along with his devotion, loyalty, protection and pure love for his friend remind me that the bible may indeed be the "word of God", but it's quite possible that there's a whole heck of alot of everyday reality that wasn't included. I would hope that readers would glean from this book that Jesus was real, had real friends, laughed, ate, worked and suffered all the same emotions and fears that we do to this day. And hey, who's to say what really went on during those years of the Christ's life that curiously are absent from the bible???? Read this book and loosen up a little!!!Read full review...

If you only have one book by Christopher Moore, this is it.

The leather bound mock-biblical edition of brilliant author Christopher Moore's classic tale, Lamb, is a great collectible for the longtime fans of his writing as well as a great way to introduce someone to Mr. Moore's work. In addition to the copy I purchased for my own library, I bought three more copies for gift-giving.Read full review...

Fantastically constructed. Informative and cool reading

This humor-based story was created with every philosophy and religion in mind. The way the author threads so much history and trends together through the years is mind-bending. He is entertaining and understands the importance of mixing the historical facts with historical fantasy and much, much more.
The inclusion of misfits and "sane" people that exist in this tale are charaters that we may encounter during our lifetime. If we miss out one one or more of them, here they are, to make sure that we get the chance to experience their existence.
Great work. great theory. great writing, with humor ad insight.

Lamb:TheGospel According to Biff,Christ's Childhood Pal

This book is a fictional story of Jesus Christ's first 33 years as told by his "best friend" Biff. The book is very original and entertaining, I read the whole thing in three days, just couldn't take my eyes off it.

It is full of "adult content(swear words, sex, and occassional violence)" as Jesus lives vicariously through his friend Biff.

The story is told from Jesus at about 8 through his crucification.

For those that aren't devoutely religious, this is a great book.

The book is titled "Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal". It is a well titled.

Great book with quality construction and having it autographed is a nice added detail. Plus, I do not expect to be called by someone inquiring about its warranty.
Now if only I could get the internet to stop asking me to rate and review every little thing....Read full review...

Lamb the story of the child Messiah and friends.

I bought it because of the subtitle of Biff and the young Messiah. As a regular Bible reader and student of Mary Magdalene, the inclusion of Maggie is a delightful plus. Just went to see the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit in Milwaukee and am awestruck but Lamb with Joshua, Biff, and Maggie have a delight that is on a par though noting the difference between history and creative fiction. Liking the style of the author and will probably search out his other writings as well.Read full review...

A Very Wise, and Funny Story

Christopher Moore has written a book that will make you laugh, ache, and think. "Lamb" is the story of Jesus Christ from the age of 12-30, as told by his best friend Biff (a "good Jewish boy"). The book explores the humanity of Jesus, as he deals with the perils of adolescence in 1st century Israel. You will meet his mom, Mary, who struggles with the knowledge that her son has a greater mission, and the fact that the community thinks she is a few falafels short of a picnic basket. I highly recommend this book, if you are not afraid to laugh, and to think.Read full review...
