The very worst I've seen
1. The set for the entire opera consists of one room with staircase, window and a door...no furniture pictures or rugs.
The walls are in need of paint from yrs of storage.
2. Costuming is late 19th century or early 20th. Wouldn't Mozart be surprised!
3. Everyone is horney. Even Susanna. You have kissing and fondling by the Count and Susanna, the Countess and Susanna,the Countess and Cherubino, Susanna and Cherubino, the Count and Cherubino. Susanna and the Count. Figaro seems to have been left out but I couldn't stand it so I didn't see the last half hour.
4. The very worst part is a teenage fairy with wings who hops through the window at unexpected times,musses the hair of the singers, sits on their shoulders and throws them around. The singers can't see him and are oblivious to all of his antics. I wish the same was the case with the viewers. The highlight is when he comes on the stage riding a unicycle between the singers. (This is funny?)
5. Hiding on stage is difficult without furniture but the door and a thin curtain serve.
6. I am a Netrebko fan and her singing is fine. She appears to be in her early 20's and quite slender. The other singers are fine and the orch. is good.
7. The staging is by young Claus Guth who had the idea that it was time for a new interpretation of this classic Mozart piece.
