Upped my gaming

Having purchased an inexpensive but unresponsive Hori starter wheel and been frustrated with how difficult it was to control my car turning, started my search for a better wheel. Read the reviews for other high end wheels like the Thruster with issues of breakdown requiring repurchase, thought the Logitech wheel a good choice. My gaming improved immediately once I started using this wheel. The wheel feels nice in your hands, and turning is fairly precise. You also get vibration back from the road giving you a 'real' driving feeling. I bought a not high end driving stand to put my wheel and pedals on and had an issue with anchoring securely the components. During hard fast racing and drifting, the pedals and wheel were moving all over the place. The wheel has little knobs that are not the greatest for tightening to the stand. I solved this by using my dad's old clothing belts and placed them around the wheel anchoring them vertically and horizontally to the stand. I did this to the pedals also. The pedals on this are nice and sturdy and look like real pedals. Some people say the brake is stiff but I didn't have any issues with it. Thumbs up for this product. It's worth the money! Quality wheel that you should research before purchase. Details in review.

Xbox owners should be aware that this only works for certain games and IS NOT universal in application. Check to see what games are compatible before purchase. Force feedback is nice for immersion though you may need a frame as a separate purchase as I did to make it practical for use as a desktop is very limited and immobile for adjustments. Another concern may be the "learning curve" for operating and fine tuning the wheel 'in game' for each individual game in each games settings. PC users can adjust the wheel itself while XBox players will have to tweak each game within each games settings to their preferences.

I would not purchase this for anyone too young to deal with the assembly and setup themselves as there are many ins and outs to the game settings as well as a learning curve to adjusting it for each game which requires some problem solving and patience. In many cases this makes the games harder to acclimate to which can provide a new, immersive challenge, but also create new difficulties, especially in adjusting to the wheel itself and all it's nuances.

Overall, I am disappointed in the lack of games that you can actually play "as they were intended" as i found some games that technically "worked" with the wheel and pedals but NOT the buttons for things like items and speed boost. However, for the games that DO work on the listings for compatability, I am looking forward to breathing some new life and new challenge into some more classic games like Hydro Thunder Hurricane as well as some Dirt Titles and sims. I paid about 230 bucks for this setup as a gift to myself to get through the winter doldrums. That's alot for a controller, but for the experience and a well planned purchase I can recommend this as a solid contender in this particular market in comparative value to other wheels I considered.

As a side not, you may need to mod the pedals by removing a rubber piece that is embedded within the unit for the brakes as it is far too stiff for the likes of most players and reviews. It's a simple task with alot of screws involved but nothing technical. It basically amounts to removing the bottom cover and unhinging the pedal to remove a square rubber stopper. So look up a video and be prepared to spend a half hour removing this piece as it is a universal fix at this point that just takes a bit of time but well worth doing.

G920 & G29 both winners

The Xbox one/PC G920 (as well as the ps4/PC G29) wheel by Logitech are both solid mid range entries into the racing wheel market. They are tough enough to handle daily normal play/use and the wheel and pedals feel quality materials. The base of the pedal portion is plastic and feels kind of cheap, but I have no fear of breaking anything. Same for the base of the wheel portion that attaches to your desk or racing seat. The paddle shifters on the wheel feel good with sufficient feedback. The force feedback is strong (and adjustable) out of the box without feeling it's going to break or toss you. The pedals are metal and have good stuff feedback as well. The brake is even a little stiffer than a real car! lol it's break response is also adjustable in the software, so you press less and get full brakes all the same. The clutch is softer but with enough feedback it feels good and the gas is easy to control and feather or floor it if needed. The wheel attaches to my desk well for left and right pressure (turning) but does seem a little funny if you put more than a little pressure forward and back. Which you shouldn't really be doing anyway, but keep it in mind. The wheel base has rubber grips for solid or hardwood floors, but you may need to add extra rubber grips due to the brakes needing some decent force to press. On carpet it works fine and uses plastic jagged "teeth" that helps it grab and grip. If you buy the manual shifter (60$ new, but can be had cheaper) it rounds out the experience and is a great, though not totally necessary addition. I just like shifting with a stick verses solely with paddles. Overall not quite on par with the old PC only G27 as far as build quality, but still my pick for racing wheel on your particular console and PC. Read full review...

Logitech G920 Driving Wheel

While it's a typically pricey Logitech wheel, it also gets raves from me for being so much like driving a real race car! I'll never used a hand-held controller again! This is only for use on the Xbox One, I wish the manufacturers would make wheels that worked with ALL systems! A different wheel is required for the PS3/PS4 Platforms.

I didn't answer the good value question, that will be based on how it handles with ME (The Aggressive Wild Man)!

Happy Driving!!

Update: The wheel adheres to the driving stand I have by 2 screwdown clamps. Once tightened, the knobs push down to hold the wheel in place. Mine knobs keep popping up & then the wheel slides around, right in the middle of a race. Newegg has done nothing to rectify this problem & Logitech referred me back to them for an exchange. Thus, my rating drops from 5 stars to 3.

Aside from some minor gripes, this is an amazing wheel that immerses you into the game.

Fantastic force feedback, excellent pedal design. Wish there were analog sticks on the wheel for specific games that use both steering and sticks, but for straight driving / racing games, this wheel rocks.

A couple minor gripes I have (aside from the analog sticks) are, one, the paddle shifters sound like they're using cherry switches which make them sound cheap: Click Click Click. Just a dumb sound when you're driving. The old Microsoft steering wheel had a soft switch of some sort, no sound. My other gripe is that the wheel could be a tad bigger. It's just big enough to use and feel comfortable, but small enough to remind you it's a prop and not a real wheel.

Those gripes aside, you won't notice the size once you get used to it, and you'll dismiss the clicks and enjoy your game because it works fantastically well.

I HIGHLY recommend getting the stick shift. It changes the game and immerses you in the realism.

Great fun (once you remove the rubber stop in the brake pedal)

Purchased as a gift for my 14yr old. I also purchased a stand. He was super excited to try start using it for his racing games.

He said that the brake pedal wasn't going down far enough so he looked up a YouTube video on how to remove the rubber stopper that was inside the brake pedal. It was easy to modify, and once it was removed, he has enjoyed it even more!Read full review...

Affordable, high quality, shifterless wheel. Definitely not close to a real auto.

Decided to get into driving/racing games after 10+ years of not playing. After a good bit of research, I decided on this wheel. Appears to be a good value relative to the other choices, however, it is still far from the feel of a real car. The wheel is surprisingly small, and the shifter is a bit flimsy and does not feel like a real 6-speed floor shifter. It is difficult to go from 2nd to 3d, and from 3d to 4th without accidentally selecting 5th or 6th. Once you use the shifter, it becomes obvious that gear engagement is based upon electrical contact, more so, than the act of positioning to achieve mesh as in a real shifter.
What I like most: It is solid, and obviously high quality (except for the shifter). The pedals are solid and feel real.

What I like least: The clamps that are built in are rather small and flimsy, and difficult to produce a firm mount to a table surface without the unit eventually loosening. This is particularly true of the shifter which takes a lot of force in the heat of usage. The fact that the pedals include a clutch, however, no shifter is provided unless one goes out and spends more money. The flimsiness of the shifting action as well as lack of precision in positioning the shifter to achieve the correct switch contact for the desired gear.

Solid piece of equipment.

I was surprised by the quality of workmanship in this wheel. I only really have one complaint, and that is no documentation on how to change any of the settings on the wheel. I was able to go to YouTube and find what I needed so it all worked out. The main thing was the force feedback. It was so high that it took 30 lbs of pressure to turn the wheel. Luckily there is a control so you can turn the force down. To find this just go to YouTube and watch the videos on setup on the 920 wheel. I could tell you which one and where to find it but if you are new to this in your search you will find all kinds of 0ther videos that are really helpful in learning to play this game. Seeing as I am almost 70 I need all the help I can get. Read full review...
