Easy to use, does what it's supposed to do.

This is a replacement for a 5 year old identical model. It works well, but I had worn off the writing on the original buttons. When I looked for a newer model they all were meant to control too many things. I just wanted a remote for my TV and components.
We had a very difficult time programming the new Harmony. Even though it is supposed to be Mac compatible for programming, it is not! After trying for hours, including customer service phone support, the only way we could program it was to pay someone to bring their PC laptop. That went fine.

Unit was subtly sticky.

Description stated not sticky, this is inaccurate. The part was somewhat sticky. Will be keeping it, as it is far less sticky that the one I am replacing. This unit came with the complete back cover with stickers and glue on them. Not going to use that complete back. The price was right for what I received.Read full review...

Not perfect but the best in class.

Cosmetically RF unit is more appealing than a 1100 with an RF add on. The 1100 RF is really an old wireless mouse dongle design. The RF is slightly more responsive and does not have to plug in to the computer to program it. 1100 RF module has to be plugged in to USB on computer to re-program. It's a real pain espeically when trying to iron out the programming. 1100 without RF is a pain because you need to keep the unit pointed to devices while pressing the soft buttons. Not nice when you're lying on the couch. You will spend less time programming because the hard button assignments make more universal sense then programming the soft buttons. Display is okay, responsive, and rugged enough to survive many falls from the bed, couch, etc. Their means to program things based on activity is really something that could be improved. The database isn't perfect as you still get some devices that switch channels twice or volume twice when you only click once so tweaks are necessary (Adjust blaster strength) Database list of devices also can use a serious upgrade. E.g. if you have Apple TV and trying to set it up to turn off when not in use... You'd think it's easy but it is not. Apple TV doesn't have an off button so it's not easy. You'd figure something as popular as this should be already spearheaded by their support team but they really seem to let the user community figure it out themselves. This product can certainly be Excellent but it's almost like they are the only provider of such a product and may be too comfortable and not really trying to knock it out of the park. Also if you're in an activity e.g. Watching TV via AV receiver and notice somehow the Network Media Streamer is left on and want to turn it off. You have to switch to device mode and really drill down to look for the turn off button. If you want the on/Off button to be avail within the activity then the dang activity wants to turn on the device when the activity starts. I realize the restrictions work for most people but if you want to break the rule, there doesn't seem to be a means to do so. I like complete programming freedom. Why place restrictions to advanced users? Programming is entirely on the PC so small corrections while you're testing the setup isn't possbile within in the remote. You can't have 2 remotes under one accout on harmony website also a bit strange. There really doesn't seem to be other choices out there in the same class. Why did I buy it? They are still the best unless you go to professional AV guys.Read full review...

Really really god but not great. Proud to own it!

I have 5 and sometimes 6 different components making up my home theater. That makes 5 different remotes with 5 different layouts. When friends come over it seems they always get confused about which remote, which input or which function everything needs to be set on for it to work. I constantly find myself having to stop what I'm doing to help them or try and train them over and over. The Harmony 900 eliminates the clutter of remotes and with literally one button it can set up the whole system in seconds for every single function. The touch screen simply says Watch Tv or Watch dvd etc...Touch the screen and away you go! That's it. It really is that easy.
On to the Downside: The cost seems high for the remote though my dumb#*! paid it. I also think its ridiculous to have to spend another $50-$60 bucks(but again I did) to buy a logitech ps3 adapter. I mean cmon... seriously $200+ and I have to spend more to control my ps3. If I could do it all over again I would buy the non-touch screen version and keep the ps3 blu-ray remote close by and save probably $100+ combined. The touch screen is cool but not at all necessary when the non-touch has a great color screen as well and easier buttons to push. Barely a difference...either you touch a button next to a color screen or touch a color screen. I mean for the money it now seems silly. The only downfall to the non-touch screen version is that it doesnt have rf capabilities which is nice if you want to hide components behind cabinets or in other rooms but Ive never seen that set up at anyones houses.. ever. Have you?
All in all the Logitech Harmony 900 does exactly what it says it wll and to me that really counts for something nowadays.I would never talk anyone out of buying this remote but once you get it you will be a little ashamed you spent that much money. Just a little though. I'd be more than happy to field any ?'s you anyone may have before purchasing. Holla.

Logitech Harmony One - Model 900

I bought this second hand. The backplate was a bit sticky, very yellow and funky. But I know how to clean plastics, so I bought it any way (with the charger/power adapter). I recommend using Meguiar's Plast-X plastic polish to clean all manner of plastics. Initially I used lighter fluid to remove some of the gunk, then polish. About 10 minutes of work. Works like a charm. It looks and feels silky smooth now. Just don't gunk up the buttons, use sparingly, many small swirls. Apply polish to the rag, not device.

It was easy to program. Connect to pc and the drivers installed effortlessly. Then I downloaded the Logitech program (x7 I believe, an older version for this particular model remote) which it requires. It's of course great that Logitech keeps the older software on their website and doesn't simply discontinue that too.

The directions for programming were pretty straight forward. I didn't however make custom activities, yet. However, the database for so many electronics and models was indeed current. I am really impressed. Ie Though this remote is rather old (2017-2018?), it had the Xbox One X console and Sony 4k tv model I just bought. Works pretty well.

In any case, I would recommend the Harmony One 900 model today. But you may find a brand new or newer model less trouble. A used remote may have an old battery that may need replacing, and electronics do eventually fail. This is my first Logitech smart remote. In the past I thought these things were priced too high, probably not that great, and a burden to program. I was wrong on all accounts. I would consider buying a Logitech smart remote again after having had this experience!

One sweet remote

Although there was some difficulty with the first remote the exchange went smoothly and the replacement remote functions as it should. My wife loves the touch screen and the choose an activity option. One button to turn on the tv an cable box or to turn on the play music function. This remote is not for those who are not computer literate. Those who are will appreciate this remote. Web site is easy to negotiate and once set up changes to the functions are easy, as is the ability to add new devices. If you have seven remotes on your table(like me) and you can use the computer for set up this is the remote for you. Expensive but worth the money. My friends are amazed at how easy it is to use and how cool it looks. I would recommend this to anyone who has a table that is covered with remotes and has the skill required to set it up.Read full review...

works well for my needs

I have a relatively simple system. It only took about 20 minutes to set up the remote for my old HD Sony monitor, Yamaha YMC-500 media controller, Vizio Bluray, and Cisco RNG 200 HD DVR cable box. Overall, I think it functions well. There are many online complaints/discussions about how Logitech Harmony remotes don't work well with the Cisco DVR box and the Logitech site says it probably won't work. However, it is working fine for me.
My only complaint is that some of the functions of each component can be controlled with the buttons on the remote (DVR pause,FF,etc) while others (list of saved programs on DVR) can only be accessed by selecting the device on the touch screen. Once your item is selected (saved movie on DVR), you must exit that function and go back to your primary screen to watch the movie. It is not a big hassle but there is a learning curve.
Overall, a very good product that serves my needs, made better by not paying retail.

The Best Remote I've Ever Owned

Having now used this Logitech "universal" remote for more than a month, I can state with full certainty that this is, quite simply, the best remote I've ever owned.

I unboxed it with a high degree of anticipation, and haven't been disappointed since. It was supremely easy to set up, because I read the instructions included. I wrote down the model numbers of the items I had, and followed the directions on the included software, getting closer step-by-step to removing all seven of my other remotes lying on the coffee table.

Once I unplugged it from my computer - after spending about an hour setting everything up - I tested it out, and it worked mostly flawlessly. A couple settings needed some tweaking, which I did right from the remote with the included built-in assistant, without having to hook the remote back up to the computer.

Now, all my former remotes - even the one for my HDMI switch (I only have one HD input on the back of my television) - are in a box in the closet. The only time I've pulled one out to use it was when I had run the battery down on my Logitech... which then recharged in about two hours.

I have not tested the RF mode, as none of my equipment is in a cabinet, but from what I've seen the key part of that setup is getting the IR "blasters" in the right place for reception. They're not going to work if they're both placed at the back of the cabinet. Just READ THE DIRECTIONS, and you should be fine.

I cannot recommend this product highly enough; I can simply say I wish I'd bought it sooner. I'm interested to try out the other control options as well, such as my fan and A/C units (which both use IR).

Best Remote Ever!!!!

I did lots of research before buying this remote and let me tell you, this thing is sweet. You can control up to 15 different items. I personally have it running 5 devices all with different inputs and outputs. Comes with computer software with thousands of makes and models so rest assured you will find yours on there. It even had my crappy no name DVD player on there. Since the Harmony 900 can connect to the computer it checks to make sure that the lastest firmware is installed and working fine. Even after the remote is configured it asks you questions on the remote to ensure that everything is working like it should. You do not have to be computer savy or even that good with electronics to set everything up. All you have to be able to do is read and follow directions. Did I mention that this thing also works off of RF (radio frequency) and you can hide all your components out of sight. Which is great for wall hung tv's. You can even progam mood lighting or theatre lights. That is my next adventure. All in all great for the money. It looks and feels like a regular remote. You may want to look into the Harmony 1100. A little more money to start off with but if you want to use the RF mode you have to buy the transponder/extender to make it work which is more money. If you don't need the RF mode you can look into the Harmony One which is much less in price. One remote to control them all! Sounds like Lord of the Remotes.Read full review...

Remote Heaven

The 900 is a great product for easy PC setup of all your audio visual equipment. The PC setup is eaasy but you have to learn it's process. The early delivery of the firmware was slow but a recent update fixed all the applications problems such as direct channel access and 4 digit inputs. But that is all fixed. I did need more than 1 set of IR transmitters, the auto setup of the new "Blasters" well lets say it takes some time, it looks like maybe a 5 min job but that can easily turn into an hours. All done I have 6 pieces of equipment in 2 separate locations that can be controller from anywhere in the house. The family likes the added features of being able to move from recorder to shows directly to live TV without any delay. The quality of the product is great, it is easy to use and I really like the touch display.Read full review...

Awesome product, Good value for money!

This device is great. Setup was easy, The only problem that I face is while switching from TV view to Projector view. I use the same sound and video system for Projector that I use for TV. So technically, Sound and Video should remain turned on while switching, infact it turns off the home theater system. So I've to manually turn on the Home Theater. I've installed and customized several times but the same problem.Read full review...
