I love this book, it was not my first Janette Book, but my second. When I received the sequel to this book I just had to get my hands on the first book, the third, fourth, fifth, etc... I have been hooked ever since on Janette Oke and her writings.

Janette Oke has done it, she has made woman fall in love with the struggles our ancestors went through in settling the American West. How they lived, how they conquered living in such wild and open spaces, and importantly, how they loved.

I am not sure how I would of reacted to the impersonal proposal that the main character Marty was presented with on the day of her beloved husband's funeral. She accepted it as a means of survival and later it was a realization of new found love for the man who so lovingly welcomed her into his home and into his heart.
I had all of Janette Oke's books, but they were all lost to me in a flood. So now I am collecting them all again. I had read them many times before they were ruined and I just had to get them all back again. I live in an isolated area and no one to borrow them from.
I think one main reason I love these books so much is that they have given to me an example of how a Christian wife is to be towards her husband. Janette Oke has shown to the reader of how a Godly home was in the past and how it can be again in our present day.
Love does, sometimes, comes softly into our hearts. I know mine did.

Excellent reading, though it goes too fast; Great story

I thoroughly enjoyed watching the 8 movies on telelvision, of the 'Love Comes Softly' Series, and was anxious to read the books. I was glad to see the differences listed between the movie and the book, before I purchased the books. My only complaint is that the story is so well written that it goes way too fast! I have only purchased the first two books, but anxiously awaiting the next couple to have on hand. I have been a great fan of "Little House on the Prairie", and for those others who love that series as well, I would highly recommend the Janette Oke books and movies. They are very nurturing to the soul, and suitable for any age; good family reading and of great Christian value.Read full review...

Beautiful story of love and faith in the old West

"Love Comes Softly" is a beautiful story about the struggles of a young widow in the early American West and the young Christian man she marries for convenience. Their growing love for each other is a joy to read, and the young woman's dawning understanding of her husband's strong belief, and her discovery of the life of faith in God emerges in a believable way. A great book!! Now even a movie!!

A fictional account of a yong couple set out to inhabit the wild western frontier in a covered wagon. Upon arrival to their homestead, Marty loses her husband in a tragic accident. Marty is faced with difficult decisions in this unforgiving land. She agrees to marry a total stranger so that she will have a roof over her head through the winter, he asks only that she care for his daughter and he will pay her fare back east in the spring. I first saw the movie and decided to read the book. As is often the case, the book contains a lot more details and is very entertaining. I would recommend this book and the other seven that follow it in the series, very family friendly and inspiring.Read full review...
