excellent game- for it's time

MVP Baseball 2005 is the closest game currently on the market to give you the most in-depth baseball experience possible. In my opinion, the only people not liking some aspects of this game will be New York Yankees fans. It's not only Manny on the cover, but also the intro video, cracks and comments throughout the games and even a song praising Boston's first title in 86 years. A great game…

A lot of folks consider this the best video baseball game ever made and I can’t dispute that. There is a ton of “stuff” in this game from classic stadia and classic players and teams to single A teams and team management mode. The graphics are chunky which is typical of PS2 and Xbox games of their time. Still digging into the game play but it is easy to just jump in and play. I know that PS3 and PS4 games have totally lifelike graphics, which is great, but this game does seem, at first glance, to be a ton of fun to play.Read full review...

Great Game

This game is very beginner friendly. The controls are easy to learn.

Game Modes include: Exhibition, Home Run Derby, All Star Game, Mini Games, Dynasty Mode, Owner Mode

There is an MVP reward system which allows you to earn points to unlock 119 team jerseys from the past and present. It also allows you to unlock stadiums, players from back in the day such as Jacki Robinson, Babe Ruth, Lou Gherig and many more!

The best part of this game, in my opinion, is the owner mode. The owner mode allows a user to control all aspects of a franchise. This includes, drafting managers, scouts, and players for MLB, AAA, AA, and A teams. Also, in owner mode, you control the prices of tickets, concessions, and souvenirs. In owner mode, you can negotiate player contracts, as well as make (fair)trades with the other teams.

MVP Baseball 2005 (PS2) 2007 Updated Rosters

MVP Baseball 2005 for the PS2 gaming console is by most recognized as the "best Baseball game sim" ever released for any game console. Unfortunately for those of us who fell in love with this title that love affair would end abruptly. Here is why ; shortly after EA Sports wrapped up an exclusive deal with the National Football League for the rights to all NFL properties to be included solely in their game, MADDEN FOOTBALL, 2K Sports did the same w/ Baseball. All second and third parties were prohibited from using logo's, player names, stadiums, etc. in their given sports titles. This left those of us in a lerch who so eagerly awaited MVP Baseball 2006. But through hard work and dedication many gamers created what has become known as "Mods" and "Updated Player/Team Rosters." These can be up/downloaded to your PC or copied onto your existing PS2 (in my case) Memory Card. These "Mods" include all 2007 team roster updates with accurate statistics and also include any trades that may have occured over the off-season. When used with your PC a gamer can even get current 2007 schedules, create their own team uniforms, make new logo's for a given team and so much more! This can also be done with your PS2 and Xbox 360 but takes a little tinkering. These updates rosters take a game such as MVP BASEBALL 2005 and brings it up to date - making a great game even better! I believe this is a "must purchase" for any true sports gamer out there! These are available for a host of games such as Madden Football, NBA LIVE, NCAA COLLEGE FB, and NCAA COLLEGE BASKETBALL to just name a few. This seller did an excellent job and I am highy appreciative of his time and effort that was put into it. To be quite honest, there is not one aspect of this product that I do not like. Easily the best Baseball video game ever made

I got this because I had it for Game Cube when it came out and sports games currently are really starting to get awful for newer gen systems. We still have The Show for baseball but it's only for Playstation and even that isn't as good as previous years. I play The Show at a friends house a couple times a week and usually keep up with how the games are. They've been great for the last couple years but this year its fallen into the same unfortunate habit that pretty much all sport games have. They try to be too realistic. Namely the physics engines on these games cause realistic collision but when combined with the type of movements required by the real life versions, usually leads to stiff gameplay. Look how Madden mechanics and feel change from year to year. This is where MVP 05 was the cream of the crop in at least baseball video games (if not all sports). Granted, the physics were not entirely realistic, but they were perfect to give you the feel and control of your player. Soft grounders to 2B and 3B are thrown out easily by 2 or 3 steps, while a two bouncer to the the hole at SS is fairly difficult and must be given the correct commands to make the play. Deep liners to the gap can be caught or dropped, and a diving play is never a guess at when and where to hit the button. Just like an outfielder, you have the sense that you need to dive as you run it down and pull the trigger as you get to the spot. Hitting is simplified but hard to master. In the show (especially 2014) you have to worry about stride time on top of swinging. Its a nice thought to try to include that timing in a game however, I've played baseball my whole life up until college and not once did I ever worry about what time my front foot went up and came down. having years of practice, it just happens as you load for a pitch. Beginners to baseball now have to worry about this timing. MVP's hitting was simplified in that it is just one button to swing and all 9 directions of the strike zone to push/pull/up/down, etc. The results depended on the pitch thrown, the spot of the pitch, direction selected and timing, and was extremely intricate as to how these factors interacted with each other. I found it extremely difficult to time hitting in The Show due to the stride mechanic, especially because each player has a different stride. MVP doesn't have the slickest visuals, but for its time was a very nice looking game. It is by far the smoothest baseball game ever produced and it's pickup and play ability make it timeless. It's too bad that idiot Manny is on the cover of this gem, but its a small price to pay to own a game this well done.Read full review...

Just A Great Baseball Game

There have been a lot of good baseball video games in our time, and the MVP series ranks right up there with them. 2004 was a good game, and 2005 is even better through a series of small additions (new hitting and pitching games to keep you occupied if you don't want to go through a whole game, and more minor league teams, to name a few). The hitter/pitcher view is the best I've played, and the AI seems to be even better (if you try to sneak a hitter like Travis Hafner in at catcher, the computer will run on you, even in the easier levels).

And it's the extra touches that make MVP such a fun play. Players send you emails letting you know whether they're satisfied or not with their playing time and salaries, and you have to balance those as well as play on the field. Players even get tired based on how many days off you give them.

Many players have distinctive batting stances or pitching motions (Keith Foulke's motion can be particularly deceptive), and the faces are very accurate. But perhaps the nicest part is the attention to detail in the stadiums. Not only are the current stadiums exquisitely detailed, but you unlock other parks like Hiram Bithorn, where the Expos played in Puerto Rico last year, or older stadiums like the Polo Grounds or Forbes Field (and if you choose one of the historical stadiums, the game is played in washed-out color, like you're watching an old TV). And it of course has the usual assortment of unlockable jerseys and players.

My only real complaints are minor ones. The "player email" function still isn't the smartest feature....it's not an amazing Blockbuster trade when two AA players get dealt for each other, while Pujols gets dealt for Clemens with no fanfare. The computer also doesn't always make the smartest lineup decisions; I've often seen them play youngsters with poor attributes, while semi-stars like Dmitri Young sit on the bench. But these are definitely minor, and if you're looking for a baseball game for the PS2, look no further than MVP 2005.Read full review...

Best baseball game ever made. Hitting controls are easy to learn, but difficult enough to master as to be rewarding. MVP NCAA Baseball the following year was good, but the hitting controls were a little more complicated. Not as seamless as 2005. Great game! Love the Gameplay!

I have liked this game ever since I first played it. The game play is very easy to pickup and is very fun to play. I really enjoy the owner's mode in this game.
