Love the 645 1000s

I've shot with Hasselblads but there's something charming about this unassuming camera that I prefer. Nothing rivals the Hasselblad as far as industrial design aesthetics are concerned and Zeiss lenses will give some sharper images, but good photography is not all about sharpness. Your camera is a tool, and you can take great images with this camera, it's fun to use, has great lenses, and it's built like a tank. It doesn't have interchangeable film backs, but you can probably get extra bodies for what a Hasselblad film back costs. Read full review...

Taking photography old school

I purchased this camera in part because I still love to shoot film, and the mamiya 645 1000s was one of the first medium format cameras to adopt the 6 cm x 4.5 cm film format (this size made it perfect to imitate the 35mm film size that was popular at that time), which also gave it more image size to work with while still keeping the high resolution of medium format. Many other cameras followed, but the 1000s was specifically designed for this arena, and it performed well. To find one in such great condition was a real treat, and matched with the mamiya speed winder motor, makes for a very portable and versatile camera platform. I love this camera, and I plan to shoot as much film as I can purchase just to bring great images to my portfolio. I would strongly recommend this camera to anyone who wants to do serious shooting and get great results.Read full review...

Relying on the Mamiya M645, solid camera, nice photos, it just costs less

I bought this camera as a start into both the film, and medium format world, which it is great for. the one i bought came with the pistol grip, which is nice, and honestly, i think it might be a bit awkward without it. it takes nice clear photos, with both 120 and 220 film, by way if switching the insert to the proper film type.

overall, this is a nice camera to use, with a nice solid feel to it, and the build quality is good. if i had more money at the time, i might have opted for an rb67, or an rz67 instead, because they are both much better cameras, but for the money, and if you want to stay in a 6x4.5 format, then this camera will do you quite well.

Come on! It's leica glass almost with 120 film or 220. No backs.

If every part works it's amazing. Wonderful camera. Great glass, great simple features. Lots of great lenses. Meter is excellent! Simple once you figure it all out. My unit needed a meter/prism replacement and I took off the auto crank. Much more manageable and lighter with it off.Read full review...

Analog in a digital age, Model T vs a T-bird, instant vs 2wks. why, better!

I have always wanted a medium format expensive camera. I have had several Yashica twin lens and rolleflex cameras, and they were fine, but there is something about looking thru the lens and seeing your subject. The camera feels balanced in your hand. Mine has the motor drive so has an extra # of weight but has the ability to take several pics per second.
I don't like the fact it is hard to find places to get this format film developed now that digital is common.
All in all I probably won't take more than several rolls of film per year, but hopefully they will be worth the trouble of using fim again.Read full review...

Mamiya M645 1000S

I have wanted a quality medium format film camera for years, but I just could not afford one. With the move to digital many former film photographers moved to digital. As they replaced their film cameras with digital they began to sell off their used film cameras. As more used cameras hit the market the price fell and I was finally able to buy. I could not be more pleased to finally have the camera I have dreamed of. Mamiya 645 1000s with 150mm f/4 lens

I had one of these years ago well before digital came about. The lenses are very good and I never had any mechanical problems. I haven't had a chance to use this latest acquisition but everything appears to be working perfectly. These are somewhat bulky and heavy and a lot slower to use than a modern DSLR but that is partly why I like to use these old medium format film cameras. I generally have it on a tripod and take my time composing the image. I find it to be a lot of fun to use the eye-level viewer which I purchased separately. The spit image focusing screen makes focusing relatively easy and accurate. Image quality is outstanding and the look of certain films is hard to duplicate any other way. I especially like Kodak Portra which has a great look and scans very well. Also converts to B&W very nicely.Read full review...

Waited So Long for This

Bought one of these back in 1977 when they first came out. Sold it to help pay for a Hasselblad, but always wanted to have one again. Fairly light weight, compared to my F4, but I can carry both on a strap at the same time. Lenses and accessories are vey affordable. I got mine here on eBay, paid like $400 and got a mint package. M-645 Super, motor drive, Prism finder, two or three backs and two lenses. and they looked brand new. I also like the format and with the right lens you can make it work.Read full review...
