Revelatory Book

This book shows how several news media handle the dissemination of news, how the news is fed to the media, and who owns what media. This is for a couple older things periods but very informative. The book also encourages one to know their unvarnished history to be able to ask the appropriate questions. Read full review...

Manufacturing Consent by Edward S. Herman, Noam Chomsky

A seminal work on Walter Lippman’s notorious observation: the media and its relationship to governmental control, Manufacturing Consent analyzes the method of manipulating public opinion to suit governmental and plutocratic ends. Governments widely perceived as democratic do not have the blunt instruments of totalitarian regimes to compel the compliance of their populace. By feigning democratic discourse and the illusion of presenting issues in a manner that allows for informed decisions; however, Manufacturing Consent accomplishes the same ends.
A well-footnoted narrative of case studies and analysis, this work illustrates how disturbingly effective the firm grip this process has on the American public.
