A Smash hit

Mario power tennis builds upon the bar set by mario tennis onthe n64 catering to mario fans who love tennis and those who like a bit of chaos thrown into the mix, the game graphically holds up with nice round edgeds bright colors and the flashy visuals we expect from any mario game.

This game has alot of single player content in the tournament modes giving you choice between two circuit types very solid 1v 1/2v2 tennis or a circuit filled with diffrent stage gimmics to keep you interested. this game is apct with alot of nintendo favorites so you are bound to find a character thats right for you, there are diffrent stat type for each character that affects how they play slighly enough so there is a bit of a strategic adventage if played well but not enough to count yourself out of the race when you are playing a slow power type vs a speedy character. Each character has 2 special moves they can use after they ally the ball a bit, imo some people may not like it as the defencive option garentes no rally the ball if missed nullifying what was once a great offensive push by the aggressor and the offencive skills at times feel abit hard to defend against, take it as you will it make each character a little unique but it grows tiresome after long brackets.

The ai's is quite smart and is challenging as you advance through the different circuits, though they may become a bit to predictable with the use of the specials and at sometimes ahve a flawless deffence in whitch you have to be very tricky to score a point but its a welcomed difficulty for those who really get intot he game, i recommend this game is best played in short bursts and save the long sessions for a hype finals or a great night with friends. i would 10/10 recommend this if you like mario sports games like strikers, mario tennis ,sluggers ,hoops, mario kart and i would recomend it to any tennis fan who owns a game combe and i would recomend this game 12times out of 10 over the wii vertion because of how tiresome it can get with motion controls and its the same game

Mario Power Tennis

Mario Power Tennis is a solid update to a great Nintendo 64 game. The fundamental play mechanics are more or less the same, which is in my book just fine given that I liked them to begin with. The selection of playable characters and courts -- both immediately available and ready to be unlocked -- is likewise impressive. Meanwhile, the overall presentation, graphics and audio are all very well done, for the most part. In short, the core is still intact, and it still works.

That said, some of the additions are a mixed bag. The new power moves, while cinematic and certainly pretty, can jar the flow of matches and make it difficult to continually follow the ball. And the new Gimmick Courts, sometimes filled with flashing lights and other obstructing obstacles, share exactly the same problem.

Still, this is a fun game, and especially so if you have two or three friends to play with. If that's the case, don't hesitate to pick it up.

A Very Different Tennis Game

I must say I don't like most sports games. I already owned Smash Bros. Melee and Mario Kart Double Dash. So I decided since the Game Cube is ending, I wanted to get any possible games I missed. One I found of interest was Mario Power Tennis.

I read a few forums about the different abilities of all the funny Mario characters. The levels can be obstacles in themselves. Every character has their own styles, speed, technique, power, and tricky. Also, everyone has their own Special Power Move. Fan favorites are in this, including a few not seen often.

The game lets you select which cup you want to play for. Each cup is more difficult as you progress. It can get very hard later on. You can play doubles with the computer or a friend.

The only flaw with the game for me is that some matches can take a very long time. The computer will be wherever you hit the ball, almost ALL THE TIME! This is especially on the harder cups. I come to rely on Power Moves to get through the harder cups.

This is a very fun and different tennis game. Filled with individual moves, a variety of courts, and funny characters. This game is getting very hard to find,so if you want this game, I suggest you get it now.

Very great game to keep entertained.

New characters, the graphic of this game are very good and soft, contrast and brightness while playing this game specially in the night and with the lights turns off is phenomenal looking. Came with a case without the manual and it looks nice, not the original artwork from this game though. But otherwise, excellent game for Tennis player lovers!!Read full review...

Deep enough to keep you coming back.

As far as Mario sports games go, as soon as you get past the annoying sound effects and cartoony players, you're left with a solid tennis game with plenty of replayability. As with most non-adventure mario games, this game is easy to pick up and takes quite a bit of effort to master. the characters all have a unique style to them which makes for interesting matches all the time. the Multiplayer is where this really shines though. You could spend hours playing with friends and having tournaments, making this a good party game to have along. The only gripe i have is when playing the tournament mode with a doubles partner, it seems that you HAVE to use a computer partner, which i thought was ridiculous. Being that this is a party game, who doesn't want to take a friend with to go through and unlock the extras? All in all, a worthwhile game to add to the collection.Read full review...

Great group game

The game has awesome graphics and the game play is great. Also there is enough unique game play with each player it keeps the game fun. Also if you have the remotes, it's a blast playing with 4 players.Read full review...

This game provides hours of entertainment and fun !!!

This is an excellent video game for kids and adults as well. I have enjoyed hours and hours of fun with my 6 year old son playing this game.
It has also made him want to try tennis for real (the same happened with Mario Baseball) and now he wants Super Mario Strikers (he is already in a children soccer league).
Anyway, this game provides you with the option of picking up a player from the Mushroom Kingdom. Every one has their own abilities and flaws when playing and a different powershot. You can also select their strenght from easy to expert.
You can select from several different stadiums and to play singles or doubles games. You can also select how many sets and matches and per game you would like to play.
This video game also comes with several minigames that can also played with the Mushroom Kingdom characters.
Overall this is an excellent video game for everyone in the family.
I recommend this 100%, especially if you have kids.

Mario Tennis, the gamecube classic

This game was one of my most favorite games growing up. It was always on demo at the walmart that we frequented when i was younger and was super enjoyable. This game will always be a favorite of mine!

A solid game...

This game has its appeal directed mostly at younger players from a gameplay and suitability perspective... The basic controls are a breeze and the finer side of this tennis game - drop shots, lobs etc - are mastered relatively quickly...

The main highlight, in my opinion, is the multiplayer that can be picked up by anyone of any age and enjoyed with a few friends... This provides some hectic action, combos, team play and specials that can have people yelling tactics to each other or trying to intimidate opponents, but it really comes down to a lot of fun... Which, of course, with the simplicity of gameplay has everyone at a similar skill level from the outset...

The solo side isn't as entertaining, but still has enough options to keep you interested... It won't beat a real game of tennis though, so I'd recommend getting this game if you're looking for something to play with some friends when there's not enough light for the real thing...
