Mr. Marshalls amp head

I love the effects, digital as they are in this wounderful and powerful amp head. The particular amp head that I bid upon and won, has a pretty severe and undisclosed malfunction - its master gain control knob is loose from the amp face (not connected to the face, just free floating in the head) but Im not that much into death-metal, so I will let that slide. This amp head was such a great bargain, I can overlook this. I play other styles that dont require distortion and this aint no tube amp head, anyways. Another major drawback is that the cooling fan makes an obnoxious sound for a couple of minutes til it gets going good, and it then runs silent (Big fat hairy deal). All in all, its a top notch amplifier brain, the best Ive ever had. I am very pleased with my purchase.Read full review...

Marshall JCM900 4100

Overall, it's a great head for people on a budget. I bought it to pair it with my Mesa Boogie Triple Rectifier head. The clean channel is awesome. Crystal clear cleans. Crank up the gain and you have that classic rock distortion.

Now here's the dirty about the dirty channel. It sounds ok. Not a sound you'd expect to come from a tube Marshall. It doesn't have the clarity it should have. It'll sound fine if you're just playing power chords. But if you want to play arpeggios or anything it'll sound dull and droning.

I use the clean channel with the gain cranked for distortion and I use the dirty channel for my clean sound. A little unorthodox but it sounds better that way.

All in all, its a great head to pair with another. As you probably won't find a single head that you're getting the tones you want out of it. Its also a great head if you're looking to play some classic rock songs.

Great amp. Lots of power.

I bought this amp a little while ago it does just what I need it to. It has on board effects and distortion, but I usually just run the effects from my pedal board. The biggest up-side to this amp though, is the amount of output power it has. Sure it might not have as much as some of the bigger Marshalls out there, but it deffinently has some kick. Plus, you get awesome, Marshall quality tone. If you are someone who needs more output at a smaller price, I highly recommend this amp for you (Although if you have a little extra doe, you should look into the Marshall JVM410JS, I think that's what I'm going for next).Read full review...

Mg100 was a good selling tactic for Marshall

The amp head does boast highly prized features, but it does not offset the cons presented by its size, weight (for those who have to continually gig it), and sensitivity of its effects (a bit of a task to dial in the delay). I will not complain however about its ability to combine the effects; offering both a clean, clean rock (which is quite loud), and an overdrive channel all linked over to the effects. Likewise, it proved to be a reliable amp head, as wells as produce high volume (with its loud cooling fan). Overtime, though, one realizes that it is not the ideal sound (tone clarity) they think of for electric guitar. It was a good selling point for Marshall (who could beat the price, advertising, and look at the time?), but as you can see due to the above cons, it just wasn't worth keeping in the long run... go combo amp (vox ac30 modded to your specs. is ideal) and always remember "resale" value!!!Read full review...

The Underdog of Marshall Heads

If you want an awesome amp then pick this up used for super cheap, and pair it with a nice speaker cab. I have mine going through a 2x12 with v30s and it sounds killer.

If you like rock/metal (or anything with distortion) you will like this amp. The FX sound great imo, ignore cork sniffing pedal snobs. It also makes a great pedal platform because of how pristine the clean channel is.

While pristine, gain wise the clean channel is very sterile, so it sounds a lot better with a mild OD or blues drive sort of pedal to give you a little grit and growl. The upside though is if you run this as a pedal platform, you will have crystal clear delays/reverbs. The OD1 w/ gain at 10 will get you a crunchy metal tone so long as you have high output pickups. I don't, so I use the OD2 with the gain at 5, and it still has more gain than OD1 w/ gain at 10.

The crunch setting is basically the worst thing about this amp. First of all if you turn the gain all the way up, it will blow your ears out with headphones on with no way to adjust the volume lower. The issue with this is if you use the emulated line out to record/gig, it bypasses the master volume, and with the clean channel not having a volume knob the only way to adjust the volume is by cutting with all the EQ knobs (sounds like utter crap). The clean channel however has no grit at all, so the gain just adjusts volume and things go back to making sense again. The crunch channel can't even clean up with gain at 0 when light picking while volume is rolled off.

Overall though it's a great amp. It sounds awesome, and it ALWAYS SOUNDS THE SAME (none of that shitty tube reaction to insufficient current). Of course it's loud enough to gig with, I rarely turn it past 1 lmao.

Also a tip to troll your engineer, is if you use the line out while gigging, you can turn the master up without affecting the volume of the signal to their board.

Marshall sound at an affordable price, new..... or used

Bought the half stack,(on e-bay!) Brand new this half stack cost less than a single Marshall 1960 CAB! It is great, yes it has the Marshall sound or tone,if you prefer, and the it's features all work well. the FX's are basiic but they do what they are intended to do,no more no less, they flavor the sound as intended. The single MG 412 cab sounds fine, but I would think both A and B cabs combined would be better for max volume settings,or the single cab could be mic'ed, and would recomnd the MG 412 speakers as they are designed to "match the head".You can plug in a set of headphones to practice at 3 am it still sounds like the 412 cab and you don't wake the house! Versatile,AMP Blues,Rock,Classic Rock,Metal or whatever it will deliver. Light enough to make moveing and setting up easy, if you play small gigs and are your own roadie. I wouldn't compare it to a higher end amp,or expect the raw power of any tube amp from it but dollar for dollar this thing is amazing! Well it is a Marshall, after all........Read full review...

One Amazing Amplifier

I bought this item because I wanted to preserve my old tube amp, and all my research pointed to it after I got over modeling amplifiers - in a hurry. I have been playing for over 30 years, and always used tube amps. I have had many, and until I got a Classic 50, I never understood the Marshall Mystique.

I was a little skeptical - usually you cant control a solid state amp with just the volume knob on your guitar - but THIS amp just floored me from the moment I plugged it in, and I am considering buying another as a backup! I am running it through a Peavey 410e cabinet, and yeah, they say it should be matched to the 412 Marshall cab, but if you ilke the 410 sound ala Super Reverbs but with the EL tube vibe, you CANT play through a 412. It will rip your head off. The 410e is another rare gem, with its 400 watt handling capacity. Use both speaker jacks...

Really for me the only channel I use is OD2 - I can go from a sweet tone at 4 on my Strat to an insane growl (or not) at 10. The possibilities are infinite! Tone settings are full-range. The ONLY real control on this that is unequalled on anything else I have used is the Contour control - Dont bother with the newer MG series, people - THIS one has it. The new MGs are watered down. Right now you can get this head cheap, so do it before it catches on!! Every guitar I have plugged into this amp seems to have its sweet spot, and this amp finds it after a minimum of tweaking. Unbelievable! I wish i could lock each knob now that I have it set.

This amp is either loved, or much maligned - all I can say is its detractors have no idea what they are talking about. No other amp I have tried recently compares. Not one. I wish they still make this one.

Musical MG100hdfx From Marshall

What I like about the Mg100hdfx Marshall is that is is acurate in it's reproduction of the sound of your guitar. It has a clean channel that has just a slight hint of Marshall flavoring. All amps have a sound all of their own, Jim Marshall nailed the clean of his tube amps in this offering in solid state. I also like the gain that this amp has; in all of the settings I can find a usable overdriven sound in every genre that I attempt to play.
The only thing I don't like about this amp is the little cooling fan in the back gives a little trouble. I bought this one used and the fan started making noise the first week, but I have since found a new one on the net and have already installed it and the amp is dead quiet now!!! Yea!
I decided to buy it because I wanted the "Marshall sound" that I could not obtain thru pedals. I like the sound of the distortion, overdrive, sound of a Marshall amp, nothing else sounds the same. This sound is a tone in my head that I hear in music and you search untill you find the amp that delevers that tone with your guitar. I could not afford the true tube Marshall amp of my dreams so I searched untill I found this little amp that comes the closest to that "tone" in my head. The real bonus is that the clean channel of this amp has a flavor of tone that I've come to love as much as the clean " Fender" sound that I have played for years, so I'm sort of a convert if you will.
I have come to love this little amps tone so much I'm bidding on another one as we speak!{For a back up}.
This little amp gets a lot of bad press because it is a solid state and some of the tube snobs have bad mouthed it, Well my thinking is they haven't given it a chance, like all amps you have to take the time to tweak all of the settings untill you get "your" sound to come out of it. It has pleanty of punch [power] to drive two 4x12 cabs. I have two Marshall MG cabs that I have changed out the speakers with Celestion GT12-100 speakers and it sounds AMAZING! If you are on a budget like me this little amp is the best bang for the buck that gives that Marshall Crunch and major distortion when when called on to do so, just take the time to keep tweaking the controls till you get there. Thanks for letting me share my experience on this amp with you!
