An Excellent Intro to Strauss Jr.

I obtained several of these Masters of Classical Music series as a gift a while ago. I am not generally a fan of samplers like these because all too often they consist of excerpts of regularly heard pieces. I prefer my classic music full and in context, and I probably own two or three renditions of the most frequently played classics anyway. Furthermore, these are seldom performed by outstanding musicians. This offering, though, is, I believe, an exception. First of all, the excerpts featured on this CD are from Die Fledermaus (almost 19 minutes), and The Gypsy Baron (almost 10 minutes). Decent samples. The rest of the selections - Wine, Women and Song; Trisch Trasch Polka; The Blue Danube; Annen Polka, and Vienna Blood - are all performed in full. The artists and the sound are both up to snuff. If, like me, you generally prefer the more serious genres of classical music and choose to listen to Strauss' works as a relaxing break, or if you just would like an introduction to his work, this is a good choice.Read full review...

I decided to buy it to complete my set of 10 cd's. This one was lost 10 years ago. I love classical music. Strauss is my obsolute favorite.
