Great Arcade style Mech game

I got this game because I am trying to extent the fun of playing games with Mechs or VTs (Vertical Tanks) like the original XBox game Steel Battalion. Steel Battalion was a tremendous amount of fun and it was more of a simulation than anything. MechAssault is a fun game to jump right into and see some good eye candy as you wreck havoc upon the enemy. The game is a little awkward in my opinion with the standard XBox controller, but one can easily get used to it after a few hours of play. Once again the game is a standard arcade style and some of the realism is more cartoonish than realistic. But that's my opinion. It isn't meant to be a simulation. The game is mission driven and as such may not be for someone who really just wants to play a Mech game with all the glory. With each mission comes new objectives and new weapons and Mechs. This may not keep one's attention if the desire is to play a few missions to experience the fun of the game in it's entirety. It's not like a racing game where one can just play any level and see the potential for long hours of fun... look at my review for Burnout.Read full review...

A pleasant set of explosions, but not for softmodding

A nice enough game. I look forward to getting the hang of this combat system, but I've enjoyed my preliminary play. Please note that only some discs for this game support Xbox softmodding, and the one I purchased turned out to not be one of those.Read full review...

Old school games

Mech Assault an old school game I loved as a teen. Original one got ring of death and had to get rid of it. Found this one on eBay at a great price. Here’s to going back to the good old days!

Not exactly Mechwarrior 3 or 4, but...eh...

It's a good game, no question. It's a little different from the MechWarrior installments of the game, but that was the point. It's more "solo" playing, which is kind of ironic seeing as this was the first major game to port the now nearly indispensable XBOX LIVE experience. But as far as non-online gaming (that's me) goes, it's a solid, self-contained game that will keep folks entertained for awhile.

Also, though I haven't employed this feature yet in the game, it's apparently environmentally interactive (almost like Red Faction for PS2) -- shoot the building above your enemy and watch it fall and do some major damage. That's pretty cool...if it works. But all in all, this is a good game, but I can't give it a 5 of 5 because it's just not quite there.

Short but exciting

I like action, scifi, and especially robot or mech games. Mechassault is a streamlined version of the Mechwarrior PCs games which are action versions of the Tactical Board Game Battletech. You cannot customize the playable mechs ingame but there are two versions of each one. Customization is one of the main draws of the board game.Read full review...

MechAssault

Description
Pilot the most powerful weapon of the 31st century, a 40-foot tall walking tank called a BattleMech. MechAssault is a 3rd-person action/shooter, where environments are not only fully destructible, they're your weapons. Blasting the side of a building exposes rebar, hanging insulation and even enemy snipers. Players even can use the environment against their foes. If they're running low on ammo, they can drop a 20-story building on the infantry and save the firepower for the big guys. MechAssault was designed as the first big Xbox Live app, featuring both online and split-screen multiplay capabilities. Gamers can battle friends or enemies over the Internet, taunt the competition, or strategizing with a teammate using full voice communication.

Special Features
Massive destruction on a whole new level. Every structure, bridge, tower and bus in MechAssault is fully destructible. Players can blow away everything in the world bit by bit. Blasting the side of a building exposes rebar, hanging insulation and even enemy snipers! Players even can use the environment against their foes. If they're running low on ammo, they can drop a 20-story building on the infantry and save the firepower for the big guys.

A powerful array of devastating walking tanks. To pilot the most awesome piece of military machinery ever created, players choose from unique and formidable BattleMechs, each with enough firepower to level a city — literally.

Online, system-link and split-screen multiplay. MechAssault will ship with complete Xbox online and split-screen multiplay capabilities, so gamers can battle friends or enemies over the Internet, taunting the competition or strategizing with a teammate using full voice communication.

Mid-mission 'Mech upgrades. Premission BattleMech choice and mid-mission weapon upgrades allow players to customize the 'Mech chassis to suit their style or mood. They can upgrade weapons, or maximize armor — the choice is theirs.

Amazing special effects. Intense, jaw-dropping weapon and damage effects all but demand that the player fire a weapon just to see the effect on the environment. Lasers light up the sky, Particle Projection Cannons electrocute opponents, and magnetically accelerated slugs from the Gauss Rifle are a sight to behold.

Dynamic mission-based gameplay. Gamers are given their military objectives by operatives on the ground and must figure out the best way to accomplish them. Players hit the ground running and enjoy the unexpected events turn routine missions into chaotic all-out frag fests.

Epic BattleTech storyline. Engaging heroic characters and stories draw upon the rich 15-year BattleTech history. Gamers will play as a fierce Wolf Dragoon mercenary and lay the smackdown on some unsuspecting pirates.

Downloadable Content. MechAssault is an evolving product. Gamers will be rewarded with new upgrades such as multiplayer maps, new 'Mechs and multiplayer modes. The Xboxes built-in hard drive allows for game upgrades not available on any other console.

Cinematic storytelling. A mission-based storyline punctuated with cinematic scenes provides key game information and clues, and heightens the drama and importance of events.

Awesome audio. MechAssault features extensive voice messaging and themed interactive music changes that reflect and drive the pace of the current in-game situation, as well as audio that reflects the current and constantly changing state of events.

MechAssault

This game really disappointed me. It is a pretty old Xbox game, but it wasn't worth the 5 bucks I paid for it. I do enjoy the multiplayer mode, because i can enjoy it with my nephews without having to worry about blood and profanity.
The story mode included wayyyyyy too many cut-scenes, and not enough game-play. Also, when the producers of this game wanted to make a particular part of it seem hard, they just put in a mech for you to fight. Not good enough? Let's throw in two, or three!! Original? Not so much. If you do decide to play the sequel of this game, MechAssault 2: Lone Wolf, you'll find that the game developers fixed that, adding some elements not expected from this kind of game, and made it a little more suspenseful and unpredictable.

DISCLAIMER: Do not play this game when you are supposed to be operating heavy machinery afterward. Users may find that boredom will drive them toward sleepiness. In all seriousness, this game, although pretty dumb for me, is good for 'Tweens, like 10-12. They are old enough to hear the rare use of language, and young enough not to hate you for buying it for them for christmas.

Awesome game good price

This is the first title I played on Xbox LIVE back in the day. You can't get on LIVE with the original Xbox anymore. But this game is still great in campagn mode and in Grinder. Also battling others locally or on linked Xboxes is so much fun!Read full review...
