Good Hearted Flim

I have watched this movie since I was little. I always enjoyed it. Last year I bought a VHS from a garage sale and it was a horrible tape. The story is about a mother Mrs. Flase (cher) who can't make a serious commintment. Every Time she sleeps with her boss and her daughters hear her singing in the bath tub they know its time to move. They are a jewish family and the oldest daughter (Wyonia Rider) is hellbent on becoming a nun. The youngest daughter (Christina Ricci) is determined to swim the englished channel one day. Not Sure

I'm not sure why they called this movie Mermaids..maybe coz the youngest daughter is a swimming enthusiast or maybe it's coz Cher dresses up as a mermaid on halloween, either way this is a funny and touching movie about life as a single parent..it's also about growing up. Winona Ryder does a great job portraying a young Girl growing into womanhood...Cher I bet is just like her Mermaids character, outrageous, funny, responsible and of course flirty..I really wish they had made a sequal to this great film..just the right mix of coming of age hilarity, drama and outright belly laughs makes this a fun film for all ages. Lovely scenery and actions

Fabulous film of current events of the 1990's, with wonderful portrayals by young as well as adult actors and a movie of the times. The action and the attitudes were indicative of single parental attitudes and ideas of youngsters who were coming of age then. Well written and excellently portrayed.Read full review...

All Star cast!

This is a "coming of age chick flick" and everyone is great in it. While there is no actual nudity, there are plenty of inuendos making the message loud and clear. So this may not be for the the younger girl learning about life. Parental decision. Having said that, this movie is fun, warm, sad and funny in the way real life often is. Everyone does a stellar job of acting their part and even though it is set in an earlier time period you hardly notice because the story is so well told.Read full review...
