Better and than OEM
I have a 2001 Ranger and ever since I broke the passenger side original door handle I have went through 3 aftermarket plastic handles as they just don’t hold up and break at the same spot. I bought these hoping it would be made better and they are!! The part that broke on the other 3 is metal on this new one and it’s not going to break in that spot! Cheap plastic backing plate
The handle itself is made of metal, but the plate/hinge that rivets to the door is poorly made plastic. This plastic part is what actually breaks on these Ranger door handles (not the handle itself), so the metal doesn’t really represent an improvement in design over OEM. Also, the backing plate is a little too small, so it doesn’t completely cover the hole in the door. When I have to do this again, I’ll be buying Motorcraft if I can find it.Read full review...

Weak plastic plate = poor design
"Metal" only applies to part of this item. The part that undergoes much of the stress during the lifetime of this part is the plate that attaches, by two bolts. to the door. That plate is made of the same flimsy plastic as just broke on the all-plastic part that I used to replace the original handle. In fact, the two plastic plates are identical as they have the same embossed code number on them.
So while the part of the handle that you pull on, and the wings that attach to the rod in the door mechanism are nice and heavy, stout metal and will never break, that plastic plate that attaches to the door won't last a week. Overall, it is poor design. If the plate were metal too, with a bit of padding so it doesn't scratch the finish and lead to rust, this would be a 5 star item.Read full review...

Finally!!! A door handle that is metal and will not break after a month. The factory handle lasted 16 years and the two cheap plastic replacement handles lasted less than a month each.
