Content is great! Disc quality is lacking. Put out by Mill Creek. Plays skippy, wasn’t cut precisely enough? Packaging is flimsy. Double sided sleeves. But for under $30 should I be disappointed? A Blast from the Past
Those of us of a...ehem...certain age, remember Crockett and Tubs when they first came into our living rooms via network and broadcast TV. (Look it up kids.) It's hard to believe it, but yes - we actually dressed like that! Anyone remember the "Miami Device"? It was a little gadget that you attached to your electric razor so that you could shave and leave your beard at the perfect "looks like you haven't shaved in three days" look. Just like Sonny Crocket, Oh Boy! Anyway, I remember reading an interview with the show's creator who said that he had been stuck in an L.A. traffic jam and was trying to think up an idea for a new show when it hit him: MTV Cops! You know, a cop show that looked like a music video complete with top 40 hits? I've been trying to think of what that would look like today. An unmarried, pregnant, teenaged cop? A group of cops all living in the same house pretending to like each other then going into the video booth to complain and criticize and put each other down? Weird! Well if you want to see the hair and the clothes and the naïve ideas of what everyone back then thought was "bad" and "evil", then "Miami Vice" is for you. I'm not going to give a synopsis about the show. Just look it up on google. What I will tell you is that if you have not seen Miami Vice, what are you waiting for!? Best....show....ever! The title theme always gives me goosebumps! Man I miss the 80's. So that's my "review". O.k. so that's not really helping you decide on whether to get this series or not. The DVD's are not enclosed in jewel cases. Mill Creek Ent. uses a protective thick paper double sided card to organize the DVD's. (I assume it is for weight and space saving for Mill Creek.) The entire box set was shrink wrapped in clear plastic and the outer box container was a bit crumpled. This would likely be an issue with a collector. For me, I can deal with it.
Time has not allowed me to view any of the DVD's yet. I am a bit nervous about the DVD quality - but that is due to some of the other reviews I have read. Maybe it is specific to the BluRay set.
Anyway, I will catch a few episodes and update my review if the quality is not stellar. Otherwise, I will enjoy Miami and fast cars without the sunburn.

The original episodes, the original music, the original guest stars (Bruce Willis! Phil Collins! Sheena Easton! Lou Diamond Phillips!), the original MTV cops. What more could you want?
Sure, the plots are often laughable, the acting isn't going to win any Emmies, and if they aired this series today, it would most likely be canceled after 3 or 4 episodes, but the original "Miami Vice" is more about mood, feeling, and scenery than about any of that technical thespian stuff.
