This Is It ('09)

While I was waiting until 1/26/'10 for this release, late last year I got
the 'Dangerous Tour'('92)dvd Live from Bucharest. Outstanding. I was still
waiting then, so I picked up the 'Live in Japan'('87)dvd, and I liked that
one too, and featured the song 'Bad'.
OK, now its Feb, 2010, 'This is it' has been out awhile, all good reviews
that I read, and I bought it. To me, it was very interesting, offered good
insight as to what goes on behind the scenes, plus I discovered that everyone
called Michael 'MJ'... (I never knew that before). BUT I have to qualify this
only as 'good', no higher, 'cause: a)its still only rehearsal, b)the disturbing
facts of his death right after this footage was shot. And one thing further...
PLEASE stop using the term 'self-proclaimed' when saying King of Pop. It cheap-
ens the title, and lets face it, didn't society do its best to cheapen and
downgrade MJ if and whenever it had the chance??? LOVE YOU MJ & R.I.P.

RIP MJ

Not Michael Jackson's best.No real dancing, no triple turns ( in fact no double ones either), weird hand moves.NO Michael Jackson.I know he is fifty but fifty is not old. Check out Tom Jones at fifty or Tina Turner over sixty. There is no way this MJ could have completed fifty shows. The best part of this show is his backup dancers and singers. He stands out on two occasions. "What About Us" rendition and a soul (Yes I said Soul and Michael Jackson in the same paragraph)impromptu performance with one of his backup singers: which he was not going to put into the final show. I enjoyed the look inside of MJ when he was not pleased. He was cool and direct and knew what he wanted. After watching the production of this show I came to the conclusion it was no wonder he could not sleep as he probably sensed how fragile he really was. He may have also sensed he could not possibly complete fifty performances. I don't know what bothered me more. MJ dying or hearing he was fifty. RIP Michael we hardly knew you.Read full review...

Excellent ! Awesome ! He Is The King Forever !10 Stars!

Truly the Awesome King Of Music !. This takes you behind the scenes and it's more than I expected to see and hear. It was wonderful to see MJ surrounded by so many devoted, humble, great singers, dancers, and everyone else involved. Such a shame MJ did not get to do his tour :( , starting July 13th. Shame he is not around to raise his kids and enjoy his retirement, like he should of been able to do so. His poor mother, what she must be feeling, to lose her most precious son. The baby son that grew up to be more famous and popular than anyone in history !. MJ was a hard worker and never took anything or anyone for granted. He worked for years to get to where he got, and then some ass of a doctor took it all away from him. I wish I could personally hang and shoot that Murry ass guy, myself ! :( It anger me that he is going to get off easy too !. Someone must of paid him to murder our Michael. Please, Rest In Peace Michael, we all are on the way to come see you someday.
Sincerely, Angie L.

Michael Jackson's "This Is It"

The late Michael Jackson's "This Is It" which was released after his death, captures the preparations and rehearsals for the planned presentation which never occurred. Documenting the personnel, musicians, technicians, choreographers, and singers who shared in the development of the artistry and music of this captivating video, Jackson, himself shines in a glory that is uniquely his own.

Viewers will recall the frequently televised clips of the "They Don't Care About Us" rehearsals. On the video, the creativity and computer-generated scenes are shown from the beginning stages to the completed production. Every viewer will be able to find their own particular niche in the lyrics of this penetratingly haunting, militarily-styled, rock-lament for the insensitivities of mankind. Well choreographed marching dance steps show an earnest defiance, coupled with a subtle hope for redemption and salvation. The recurring chorus will resonate in the minds and memories of viewers for a very long time.

The technical qualities of the video are great. Lighting, camera angles and views, and overall staging of the video demonstrate professional skills that rank among the most imaginative and inspired filming techniques.

Given the circumstances that prompted the creation and release of "This Is It," the video is destined to become a classic collector's item. The King of Pop has left a deep and lasting mark on the artistic and musical galleries of modern culture. Michael Jackson's superior dancing skills, coupled with his inviting vocal artistry, will not disappoint; but will inspire, thrill, uplift and give rise to genuine thankfullness that Michael Jackson once lived, walked, sang and danced amongst us.

Fan - Tastic!! 1 Last Gift From The King Of Pop!

When Michael Jackson died on June 25th 2009 it seems a part of the world died with him. It made many people sad all over the world and it seems that for once everyone was being nice to this man who had always been abused by the Medias; journalists, interviewers and others. When I heard of the "This Is It" movie concert I didn't know what to think. I knew it was rehearsal footage from the 50 concerts he was to perform at the O2 arena but I didn't know what was going to come out of it or what they were going to do with it. When I saw the trailers I knew I had to see this and that "This Is It" was going to be something special like I've never seen. And that's precisely what I got, I even bought my ticket in advance for the movie and feel like it was much worth it.

It amazed me how good MJ still was, the dance moves were great and fascinating to me. He was clearly the one in charge of the whole thing. He gave precise instructions of what he wanted, made sure everything was right and did everything that needed to be done. The film shows just how much Michael was respected, there were parts of it where they asked him if he wanted anything or what he thought and if he liked something, it seems no one assumed anything at all. When he talked the crew would listen and he asked things in the nicest way, never to hurt anyone. There's not a part that doesn't make him look like the nice guy he always was. There are mixed feelings about him after all the bad things that have been said about him but after watching this I don't know one could possibly believe them.

To be honest I loved every minute of it, every song was special and was great to watch. Right from the beginning of "Wanna Be Startin'Somethin'" it was amazing. No matter how many people surround him he's always the one who does things better than anyone else and the one you're watching. This Is It was really a unique experience, I felt they chose the right footage parts for the movie and made him look great in every sense. They could truly have messed things up but they didn't and came out with an amazing documentary, it's sort of a testament to his fans, it's just very special. I really liked the Thriller 3D part, it was a 3D video shoot and afterwards you see MJ coming out onstage from a spider, the show would have looked awesome. They Don't Care About Us was amazing, The Smooth Criminal part was very interesting, so was the Earth Song which had a beautiful video of a little girl in a forest, waking up to see that all of it has been destroyed. I won't go further but every song had something about them.

The stage show would have been grandiose, the fireworks, the "fireball" (quite impressive I won't spoil anything), pyrotechnics, the videos that accompany the songs are all very impressive. This could very well have been the best show ever had he lived to perform them. In the end I was quite amazed by the 1: 48 minutes I watched, I can't wait to see it again and the message Michael gives at the end is very inspiring. From the auditions of the brilliant performers to the credits with the "This Is It" song I was captivated.

This would have been "THE TOUR OF ALL TOURS" - judge for yourself.

Michael Jackson's genius on vivid display.

One of the best performance DVDs I've seen, and I've seen a lot. This tour was scheduled but cancelled due to MJ's death. This is all rehearsal plus a look back. MJ is at his very best on stage but with only the crew as his audience. You become the audience.Read full review...

Michael Jackson's This Is It

“This Is It” is a concert movie without the concert. The rehearsals draw heavily from Michael’s older hits beginning with “Wanna Be Startin’ Somethin’ ” and moving through “Human Nature,” “Thriller,” “Beat It” and “Billie Jean.” Some of these are accompanied by elaborate mini-movies, some shot with special effects, including 3-D.

If you want to learn about Michael Jackson “the person” you will not get it from this movie. You will see he is obviously not healthy meaning, he is very thin and he appears to always be cold (wearing a coat) when everyone else is sweating.

You do learn that Michael is a perfectionist and that he wants to give his fans the show they are expecting from him. If you are a genuine Michael Jackson fan you will enjoy this movie.

The final performance from the king of pop!

In March of 2009, Michael Jackson announced that he was scheduled to perform a series of concerts at the famed O2 Arena in London, England, starting in July. There were to be a total of 50 concert dates to take place between July 13th, 2009 through March 6th, 2010. Jackson, along with his entourage of musicians, vocalists, dancers and technicians, rehearsed the shows throughout the month of June, perfecting every detail of each song. Many hours of high-definition film footage was taken of these historic moments on stage at the Staples Center in Los Angeles. The film shows Jackson in fine form, as he and the others involved go through the motions. This remarkable film event was directed by famed choreographer Kenny Ortega, the same person who helmed the popular "High School Musical" series. Jackson shows that at age 50, he still has what it takes to excite and electrify an audience. Rehearsals went all the way up trough June 23rd. Sadly, Michael Jackson passed away 2 days later on June 25th. 7 months afterward, comes the official DVD release of this amazing film achievement. We, as fans of the celebrated "King Of Pop", are very fortunate enough to have this lasting document, which gives viewers a unique and special glimpse into what "Might-Have-Been". There is no doubt that these ground-breaking concerts would have been stellar, first-rate shows. The footage extracted for the final film product is a fabulous and fun variety of some of Jackson's best-known as most popular songs from his storied career. Among the songs are "Don't Stop 'Til You Get Enough", "Smooth Criminal", "Human Nature", and "Billie Jean". Michael Jackson may be gone, but his legacy continues in the concert documentary, "This Is It".Read full review...

Michael Jackson's last gift to the world: This Is It

This is a very well done depiction of the swan song of an extremely talented and widely misunderstood artist. His message was love, and you can feel it when you watch this film. From the respect his colleagues felt for him to the inspiration and excitement he instilled in the dancers and musicians who had the good fortune to work with him, it is all captured in this work. It takes the viewer backstage to reveal the work that goes into producing a large-scale world tour of this magnitude.

I shows the man's dedication to his art and the love he had for his fans. It almost feels as if he knew he wouldn't get the chance to do the tour and he had it filmed as his last message to the world.

I loved the movie and can watch it repeatedly. I highly recommend it to anyone who appreciates the work of Michael Jackson. It is the best there is of music and dance. It is a unique profile of a unique person.
