Improbably Saving Rare Horses During World War II

While not entirely historically accurate, this older Disney DVD portrays what the more recent book, "The Perfect Horse," by E. Letts researches in great detail about the Nazi desire to breed the perfect Aryan horse. Her best selling book describes the risky efforts to save exquisite Arabians and Lipizzaner from starvation, from being eaten by the starving Russian army, or bombed out of existance during WWII. Disney downplays the violence of war to make this a family friendly movie suitable for all except maybe the youngest children. This is an important, but relatively unknown episode of WWII, in which supposed enemies, but actual horse lovers, risk so much to save these rare, beloved horses. In the movie, the recently mechanized US Army Cavalry makes a last minute raid to save these horses and get some of them shipped to the USA. Who can resist watching the Lipizzaner perform at the Spanish Riding School? Not me! Recommended.Read full review...

Miracle of the White Stallions

I bought this because my granddaughter is as horse crazy as I have been all my life. We were raised in the Air Force and too have a chance to go to the movies on any base was a real gift. This was one that I remembered and I wanted to get it for her. After seeing it in this day and age it is a little behind the times compared to todays movies. But it is taken from real events which is more important to me. It's a bit drawn out in the beginning and the music is a bit drab, but that hasn't stopped my granddaughter from watching it almost every chance she's allowed to. Disney would really do this historical event even more justice if they would remake this movie using todays technology and special effects and updated the music. What a great movie it would be again!!!Read full review...

Miracle of the White Stallions DVD.

Great movie that is based on a true story. During World War II, people band together to save the rare Lipizzan horse breed from extinction due to bomb raids. Thank you.

Miracle of the White Stallions

This movie is based on true facts shortly after WWII. These horses are a very special breed. Today I believe they still perform in Europe having been saved by US forces. Highly recommend
