Moon Over Parador (DVD, 2004)

This comical story is told in a series of flashbacks after Jack has returned to New York City, and is in a room on audition call. He is telling some old friends this unbelievable story.

Film actor Jack Noah (Richard Dreyfuss) is filming a movie in Parador, a fictional country in South America. Jack is a dead ringer for the dictator for life, and when he unexpectantly drops dead, Jack is drafted to impersonate him. This is an actor's dream! What he doesn't know is that the ex-president's right hand man Roberto Strausmann (Raul Julia) plans to one day take over the government himself. Jack accepts the job and with lots of help, pulls it off. In fact, he charms the people eventually winning their love and confidence. He even wins over the dead president's mistress, Madonna (Braga). As this drags on, Jack has solidified his position, but is trapped in the lie. His girlfriend now, Madonna, is charismatic and loved too by the people. Now they must figure out a way for Jack to get out, and Madonna to become the president while keeping Strausmann out. This is a funny movie.Read full review...

Great Satire with Dash of Love Story

This movie is timeless. A great satire with solid writing and amazing acting by the entire cast. It's only heightened by the dash of love story that develops between the Dreyfuss and Braga characters. Check this one out!Read full review...

Take Me to Parador!!

Fun romantic comedy with latin american charm. Reflections of a simpler way of life in the hands of a self-indulging dictator who meets an untimely end placing the country in crisis and needing a stand in. Enter Richard Dreyfus, an actor filming an action movie in this tiny latin american country, who finds himself playing the role of a lifetime. Some adult themes, but filled with satire, laughter, and a generally good time for the viewer. It is now part of my permanent collection to be brought out whenever I need a lift from the drudgery of a routine life.Read full review...

Ah! We love you, Parador!

This is comedy from an era gone by, and an actor with a style like no other. This movie is funny, sensitive, with an original, interesting story. Richard Dreyfus also adds his special characterizations in Let It Ride, Jaws and other wonderful movies.

Moon Over Parador

A really funny comedy starring Richard Dreyfus as an actor who is relating
how he spent his summer to a friend. While filming in a small South American
country, Dreyfus does an imitation of the Dictator who runs the country. When
the dictator dies, the behind the scenes power (Raul Julia) decides that
Dreyfus should poses and impersinate the dictator. All kinds of funny things
start to happen naturally as Dreyfus - while being able to imitate the dictator-cannot fool the dictators girlfriend and part of the dictators staff
(who decide not to ask questions-or they will get the axe by the Powerful
Julia). A great movie full of laughs for a night of entertainment.
