Mrs. Henderson Presents (2005)

Title is just whatt Mrs. Handerson was doing and she did it with a flair.

Based on a true individual and what she did to cheer troops and public during London's horrible days of the Blitz by Hitler's planes during WW II this shows the spirit that helped the British and her allies to survive and to win.

Characters were excellently drawn, events were in accord with history but there was humor, courage, and grief well mixed. With Judi Dench in the lead it was great and I'm glad to have it so I can watch it again. I am a long time fan of Dame Judi going back to when she and husband Michael starred as a bumbling couple courting. This movie was up to her usual level and the whole cast was as good. Fun and Uplifting

I wasn't aware of this movie until reading it on Judi Dench's filmography. Sorry I missed this when it came out 10 years ago. But now I have watched and thoroughly enjoyed Mrs Henderson Presents.
For the most part this is a upbeat movie with upbeat characters who have some very funny lines in some very funny scenes. There is of course tragedy related to the fact that this movie depicts London during the "blitz" of World War II. But in the long run it's the story of a woman who loves life and who is able to manipulate the establishment to bring the joy of life to citizens and soldiers dealing with the fears and dangers of war.
The bonus on the Mrs Henderson Presents dvd is director Stephen Frears very entertaining comments on the production of the movie. You shouldn't miss this.Read full review
