Murakami in a Nutshell until 2007.

Murakami, Mr. Tokyo Japan Superflat, a great synopsis of his work, the hyper perverted anime robotech transforming big breast doll, the DOB micky mouse / sonic the hedgehog hack, the buddha frog statues that were featured in predominant NYC commercial district landmarks, Murakami's early work hacking the Tamiya RC car logo, the LV collaboration in pastels, a lot of the Ropponghi Hills influence artwork - the little flowers that Kanye West likes so much (and obviously, many more collectors), the gout period in which Murakami's mushrooms are throwing up and lots of pain, suffering, and blackness are instilled and splattered across the surface optimism and happiness of the colorful characters. Thing about living legends and trying to tie up a living artists work is that an artist is never truly satisfied and work continues to be in progress until death. For now, I am content and satisfied that Murakami seems to be in good spirts, health and globally connected to produce more work through his studio - can't wait to see it! As for the book's authoring group (MOCA Los Angeles, California), there is scholastic writing about Murakami and in depth study by way of pictures of how his work is completed in theory, in practice and in final presentation, but I think I learned more about Murakami simply by watching him introduce his MOCA exhibition (Louis Vuitton collaboration) on Youtube. For example, the dark period in which Murakami could not pay his studio workers and when he was experiencing gout and sickness, thus those personal feelings and experiences were thrust into his artwork - having the KaiKai Kiki studio workers allowed art output to continue. The book is a great buy and accompanied me on many evenings before bed, allowing me to dream in full color and enter the dream world of Murakami. Perception vs reality - when Takashi's artwork is selling for $15M, the fanatical and awesome is no longer perceived as a dream but as a reality.Read full review...

Beautiful! A Great Companion to the LV Books

This is a beautiful book with amazing images of artworks. The book is of high quality. It makes a great companion to a recent purchase of Louis Vuitton: Art, Fashion and Architecture (book cover and some sections depict Murakami's work for Louis Vuitton), as well as Louis Vuitton: The Birth of Modern Luxury.Read full review...
