Murder Carries Laughs HARDCOVER 2000

Anne George created the Southern Sisters Mysteries and did such an outstanding job that her passing made us morn for one of the best writers who ever put two Southern sisters, of middle age, into stories of wit and humor and memorable character.

Patricia Anne is the complete opposite of her sister Mary Alice. Where Patricia is petite and of a conservative, witty nature and still married to the same man all these years, her sister Mary Alice is full-figured, tall, and flashy and has several marriages behind her, but that does not deter her from looking for the next husband!
Just back from vacation where she and Mary Alice spent time with Patricia's married daughter Haley, they are both greeted by their cousin Pukey Lukey who's in a terrible state! Pukey got his nickname from being car sick all the time as a child but now he is heart sick. His wife, Virginia, of 40 years, has run off with a housepainter/preacher. Luke talks the sisters into driving with him to the top of Chandler Mountain to search for Virginia. Once they get to the top, Luke goes into a deserted, rundown church and doesn't come out. The sisters go inside and find that he has been hit on the head and is out cold. Next to him is a pretty redhead who is dead! After Sheriff Stuckey is called and Luke is taken to a hospital the sisters find out that the church belongs to the faithful that are into snake-handling. All is not well with the church who is looking for a successor to the head holy man who they believed was killed by the legendary Chandler Mountain Booger...."Bigfoot!" Patricia and Mary Alice don't believe this for a second and start asking a lot of questions. Luke's wife is still missing so how does she fit into the picture? And who threw a live rattlesnake into their car?
