Netgear R 7800 appears to be a superlative Internet router

The R7800 is not for the faint of heart. My meaning is that it will require some preparation and some reading. Certainly, plugging the router straight into the cable modem should work fairly well as a sort of plug-and-play device. Nevertheless, some set up will be required. Conversely, this is the superlatives advanced router that comes equipped with many advanced features that I will allow the reader to research all by themselves! I do like the on and off switch on the back! Finally, a device that one can turn off at will! For reasons that I cannot fathom, manufacturers of many varieties of in-home use Internet connected devices come without on off switch in capability. My Roku ultra device for example, has no on or off switch. I do believe this is entirely asinine! The perverted neurotic obsession to force consumers to keep devices switched on and running 24 hours per day 365 days per year is simply evil to say the very least. There is a clear intent here to undermine the ability of the consumer to control Internet connected devices. In fact, it is quite likely that net gear will probably remove the on and off switch for the back of this router perhaps for its next model release of this roter. I recommend connecting these devices to a power supply that you can easily turn off at will. Cheers and never surf the web without a safety net! In other words, a switch that will allow you to turn the damn thing off! Read full review...

Too many quirks

This is the second new unit I purchased, both have faults that cannot be resolved via Netgear’s troubleshooting techniques. I’m hoping the third time is the charm. The first one, after updating the firmware, would not allow changes, the second one, won’t allow internet on the 2.4Ghz wifi.Read full review...

Great router!

Was expecting to pay more for these kinds of specs - 4 Gigabit Ethernet LAN ports, 2 USB 3.0 and an eSATA ports for file sharing, and great range, but got it when it went on sale. eBay had a 20% off sale at the time, so it was a no-brainer (got it for $180).

I bought this with recommendation from various Reddit posts and smallnetbuilder's ranker (https://www.smallnetbuilder.com/tools/rankers/router/view).

Easy install. Outstanding quality

It was easy to set up and worked very well in the 2 story home it was installed in.
No extensions need for WiFi . The old system, installed by the internet provider, was inadequate and serviced only about half of the 3200 sq ft, 2 story home. This one does an amazing job of allowing internet to be used in every room. Excellent product and well worth the price.Read full review...

wifi problem solved

This product is amazing because it has an app called NETGEAR genie and it allows to see who is on my network and also it allows me to control the important vs the not really important flow of traffic. I used to have the wifi router from xfinity but I was only getting speeds of 90-130 mbs and now with this nighthawk x4s I'm getting a constant speed of 240 mbs never below 200 mbs. I would highly recommend for people that are paying for high speed networks.Read full review...

Nice router but lacking in a few areas

Router is one of the better routers out there. Good speeds. I have a hard drive connected to the USB port so I can use it as a media server and the transfer speeds are fast compared to other routers I have used. All in all a nice fast router.

There are a few negatives however; The user interface is dated and not the easiest to use. Also the router is missing options that would be nice to have like real time per user traffic and bandwidth monitoring. It would be nice to be able to see what websites your children are visiting and which one is using what bandwidth but real time traffic and bandwidth monitoring are not there.

Fast Router

I recently got ATT Fiber and the modem came with a built-in router, which was good. I got an average of 50mbs over Wifi with the built-in router over 100Mbs connection. However, this Netgear router is a beast since I now got 85-90Mbs over Wifi using the same 100Mbs connection. The devices downstairs also got an average speed in the 80s. Highly recommendedRead full review...

Better than some newer routers

I’ve had an XR 500. I have also had an R8000. Both were excellent in range and in the XR500’s case, its software. Yet the R7800 had a very crisp, clean, and quickness that can’t be achieved with the other two. This router though to be short and sweet, is just well above the competition.

Custom firmware -Check

Speed - Check

Reliability and uptime - Double Check

This is also giving me better speeds over wifi across all my devices compared to my r8000

The router lived up to my expectations. I got what I need at the moment.

There was a problem first. The router sometimes shuts down or reboots. It worked normally for several minutes, and then either turned off (the power indicator turned yellow) or the router was constantly rebooting.
The problem was with the AC adapter, and it was replaced. Now the router is working fine.
The router meets its specifications and is in good condition.
The firmware is not the latest, but for me it is very good, because the latest stock firmware is more difficult to update to the DD-WRT firmware (only TFTP is bypassed).
I do not know what is "Free shipping LQQQK !!!" - shipping cost me $ 36.75, but that's really normal.
