Bountiful Frustrations
This product has all of the functionality of a running watch designed by runners; it easily plays music from google play without a phone connected and allows you to play music while running and easily navigate between windows.
However, the watch seems like it was also engineered by runners (in the sense that it almost certainly wasn't done by professionals).
One of the charging pins receivers on the back of the watch appeared to be chipped when the watch arrived and as a result it takes 5 - 10 attempts of placing the watch on the magnetic cradle to get it to actually charge and it frequently disconnects making it difficult to charge it while I sleep.
Additionally, the battery lasts apx 1 day with all smart notifications turned off; with the notifications were on, there wouldn't be enough juice to go for even a short run.
Speaking of battery, there is MAYBE enough battery life to get you through a 2 hour run, but don't even dream of using this during a marathon.
When beginning a run, the GPS takes anywhere from 1 to 5 minutes to locate a signal and the watch will not record the activity unless you have signal when the run begins (i.e. the accelerometer doesn't compensate for GPS gaps).
This watch also suffers from common wrist based heart rate monitor problems when sweating. I frequently have my heart rate measure anywhere from 40 to 240 when running (where it is realistically somewhere between 160 and 190 depending on the type of workout.
Lastly, the watch has significant button lag when using the physical buttons (which I find easier when running).
In conclusion, I believe that pairing a Garmin running watch and an iPod shuffle is still more effective than this all-in-one device unless you're on a budget and don't want to spend $500 for the two items.Read full review...
