Great National Geographic Production for 5-9th Graders
This makes a good learning tool for 5th through 9th Graders. Anyone planning a trip to James Town should watch this production prior to going. We have a group of kids whom travel every year to the Virgina/D.C. area every year, so I plan to give this DVD to the School's History Teacher to help prep them for the event.
As far as the production of the video, it's on the level of most of National Geographic's efforts. Some of the re-enactments are obviously staged with poor acting, but the budgets probably run very low, so don't expect too many dramatic scenes. In fact, scenes are repeated through-out. Oh well. Historically, I think it's fairly accurate. It debunks some of the Fairy Tales about Smith, but I'll leave out that so not to spoil it. Be sure to check out the extra interactive map feature, it gets a bit dry, but very informative.

Well done, but more intrigue than historical narrative.
Well done, but just not a good historical narrative. I purchased this DVD to give my grandson some historical insight into the Jamestown settlement prior to a visit. This didn't really fit the bill. Too much of a CSI type story about identifying the skeletal remains of one individual. I taught this subject to 5th graders for 23 years, and I really don't think this would have been useful in my classroom.Read full review...
