At $99 via Dell this 'Dual-band' unit is a great

We have installed three (3) of these devices and had great success every time. The installation is automatic with a typical home/small business DSL or cable connection. And the instructions to access it via a connected PC and browser are printed right on the back, and allowed us to implement additional settings (e.g. particularly security).

As we originate this review this unit is being sold with various PCs at Dell for $99 which is just below our cost via normal channels of distribution. It features a fast Wireless-N connection, while also supporting a second signal (e.g. dual band or more traditional Wireless A-G). Also included are wireless security and other typical router capabilities (e.g. DHCP, NAT and more, [See our guide titled: "Hubs, Switches, Routers - What's the difference?" for definitions of these terms]).

Finally the unit provides one (1) WAN and four (4) switched ports making it a great fit for a small group of up to four hard-wired PCs, as well as one or more wireless PCs. This allowed us to create local area network of connected devices and permits sharing Internet access, files, printers, etc.

In comparative reviews this unit was faulted for a performance drop at longer distances, a too-simplified install wizard and the lack of Gigabit Ethernet connections. Works great and really boost your wireless performance.

Very easy to install using the smart wizard. Customer service quick to get through also 24/7 support if you are under warranty. Product works great and love the design as well

Note: If you buy a used Router, make sure you reset it before installing, this took me a while to figure out and was really frustrating.Press and hold down the reset button for 20secs until the power button starts blinking. Once you've reset it, the rest of the installation is smooth and easyRead full review...

amazing range but not the fastest wireless

i got this router to replace the netgear WNR-2000 my isp gave me that was freezin.i got mine with the DD-WRT firmware on mine. i have used it on other routers and it tuns any router into a seriously configurable router with features not even seen on ones that cost twice as much.

the main thing that bugs me are -

there is no way to attach an external antenna without soldering i think 2 of them with half decent antennas coudld easily bridge over a mile

the WAN is good it can handle my 50Mb cable connection

the wireless is very slow the 2.4ghz radio tops out about 15Mbit 6 foot from the router. the dual frequency 11N radio tops out at about 30Mbit and the speed difference between 20mhz/40mhz 2.4Ghz/5Ghz is very little when you are close to the router but at longer ranges with few other routers around the 2.4ghz wifi will go further but if there are lots of routers around the 5ghz might be more stable. its still is not enough to saturate my internet connection.

but that being said the 2.4ghz radio on it great i can connect to it from my Iphone over 100 meters down the street through my bedroom wall.

Worth it

So far so good. This is good value for what it is offered for. Signal strenth it gives to all my three computers and net TV and net Home Theater is excellent. Set up wasn't easy but to be honest it was more my fault, the way I went about it. Had I followed the instructions for getting started the first time I may have avoided the trouble I went through. It doesn't come with a CD, but if instructions to make the ethernet connection and logging in the first time are followed correctly a CD is not really required. A tip, go to xfinity .com/internet for tips on setting up a netgear wireless router with cable broadband. It will be easy to set up the router after you read the instructions posted there.Read full review...

Solid performer

I've had more than a few routers, primarily Linksys. Early versions of the WNDR3300 got weak reviews, it's safe to ignore them. The Netgear firmware is more reliable than any Linksys or dd-wrt firmware that I've used. Range is excellent, it's fast, and it just plain works. I only have one very small complaint: the wireless repeater function does not support use of WPA/WPA2. This is my second WNDR3300, I intended to use it as a repeater for even greater range at higher speeds.... until I discovered the encryption limitation.Read full review...

Good gear - poor setup wizard

The router is great - once I got through the setup. I used the built-in setup wizard, which hung up so many times I was getting frustrated (easy for me to get that way). I finally got it set up, and it all works fine. The setup wizard is a real pain - great when it works (it only worked properly for me ONCE!)-after several attempts. Lots of security options.Read full review...

Love this router

I’ve owned two of these now and they both work great. Both were used and bought for under $20 and I’ve had no trouble with them. I’ve only owned the second for a few weeks but the first I bought about 2 years ago and it puts out a good signal and has had no problems since the day I bought it. I only got the second because I moved from home and left my first one behind for my family to continue using. I would highly recommend these routers.Read full review...

NETGEAR WNDR3300 - RangeMax Dual Band Wireless-N Router

It was very easy to set up as long as I hit the reset button since it was a refurbished item. It took a little time to think of that I went through all other steps prior to hitting the reset button. So far there is nothing I do not like about it. I upgraded from a linksys G router and the signal is much better, I can use wireless throughout the entire house 2nd floor even.Read full review...

You cannot go wrong with this router.

If you are having issues with your WIFI, low signal quality, Netflix on the Wii constantly disconnecting, slow to no response over your iPhone, then THIS is the router for you. I have eight devices, five of which are wireless pulling bandwidth from this router and it doesn't even flinch. The stand makes it much easier to place on your desk or anywhere strategic, though the signal is so good I wonder if you could bury it in a closet and still get a signal. I did have a little trouble with my wireless printer after setting this up, but it wasn't really the router, it assigned the printer a new network entity name and I had to change the drivers on all of my machines to reflect that. Other than that I've had no problems, and definately no regrets.Read full review...
