Superb entry-level performance

At around $500, this Nikon D3200 kit, with two vibration-reduction (VR) zoom lenses is a great kit to get you into professional-level capabilities without breaking the budget.
The kit comes complete with everything you need EXCEPT A MEMORY CARD. Be sure you buy a card with a fast transfer speed (the speed at which data can be written to the card). The fast speed will make a difference if you shoot sequence shots (the D3200 shoots up to 4 frames per second in sequence mode).
I shoot in manual modes, so can't attest to the automated settings, but this camera has all the popular presets, from "Portrait", "Sports" or "Landscape" preset modes, to operation in Shutter Priority or Aperture Priority. The VR works great shooting long telephoto shots, and the autofocus is amazingly fast and accurate.
I've had this camera about 9 months now, and have used it in all 4 seasons. It has never let me down, produces beautiful images, it's light in weight, and the battery will last a week or more, has lasted me all day while out & about shooting pics.
The camera also shoots video, and has a number of features I am yet to learn and explore.
Be aware the DX format has a "compact" image capture device (CCD), which is slightly smaller than a "full-size" 35mm imager. Read up about it. So far, it seems to make no difference to me. Bottom line is there is a smaller "viewing" area you're capturing. Like a narrower "field of view" in binoculars.
Secondly, be aware the camera is designed for AF-S lenses, meaning the servo motor for auto-focus is within the lens. (AF format lenses are for cameras that have the servo motor in the camera body). This just means you want AF-S DX lenses to work seamlessly with your camera. A standard Nikon N-mount, you can use other lenses, including those without servos, you just may need to make adjustments manually.
A Nikon owner all my life, I was little disappointed to see the gear is manufactured in China, not Japan, but it has Nikon's good name on it, so I hope the quality follows suit. So far so good.
No experience with warranty repair (a good thing- no malfunctions so far), though I have had experience with Nikon USA Service & Repair for an auxiliary lens, and found their response (while not inexpensive) very fast.
All around, a great, powerful camera in a small, light, reasonably-priced package.
I would highly recommend the Nikon D3200, particularly with the VR lenses.

Scott O'Connor.

Great entry level camera

It's a great starter camera for anyone who wants to become a professional. It has a lot of pro features as well as the usual auto modes to get you going. While you can take great shots straight out of the box, as you learn about photography, you will see what this camera is truly capable of.Read full review...

Excellent purchase on a Nikon D-3200

The Nikon D-3200 is a great unit to own. This unit has an amazing 24.2 MP a very light and compact camera with most of the bells and whistles of other more expensive models. It’s the camera to have in your camera bag. You won’t regret to own it.Read full review...

Great Camera

I ordered this camera expecting it to be sort of beat up (because you know, used) but it came looking brand new and not only that but all the lenses came in beautiful condition. The pictures on this camera come out great! And the video/sound is equally great! This is one of the best purchases I've made in a while.Read full review...

Excellent camera, close to professional capability.

This Nikon DS3200 was suggested as all I would need to progress in my photography. I don;t sell photos, but am published form time to time, and this will allow me to go as far as I will ever need to. Nikon instructions come with it, and go from quick start to encyclopedic. All you need. great choice.Read full review...

The quality I was looking forward to in a Nikon was delivered.

I have had this camera for about 6 weeks. I've had good pictures and also let my daughter and wife use the camera and they found it easy to use. To sum it up best, I've wanted this type camera for years and my wife commented after the first family get together, "Wow, you have taken so many excellent pictures with this camera, I wish you bought one long before this." So easy to use I look forward to advancing beyond the basic instructions in the future. My wife is even talking about taking a photography course once she retires in June. To anyone looking for an entry level SLR this is an excellent choice.Read full review...

Super solid DSLR

Finally went back to Nikon after terrible Canon camcorder/DSLR experience.
Still learning it, already see it takes MUCH better pictures.
Finally worked to download a video on social media. >Hopes it will work on You Tube or Odessey, the Canon didn't. Read full review...

NIKON RULES

As a newbie photographer I love this camera! It is light weight, and with the detailed owner's manual, relatively easy to use. It does have some features I will never use but who knows. Switching lenses is really simple, once you refer to the owner's manual. (Gotta be smarter than the camera) I have had this camera A couple of weeks and enjoying it more and more.
NIKON RULES!
