Super Camera!

Fantastic camera, the Nikon D6. I use the previous model, D5 also. The D6 is superior in focusing to the D5 (I know, hard to believe but it absolutely is). Several other additions and perks make the D6 the best Nikon camera body ever. Read full review...

the best of a dying breed; many better and cheaper options outthere

Buying this in 2021 is like buying a horse carriage once the Model T was up and selling. even Nikon has jumped ship to mirrorless in terms of using the "flagship" denomination for those. Unless you have unlimited cash or more F-mount lenses than you can carry, dont even consider a D6.

and if you need a D6 for a job; just borrow or rent one. You dont want to be owing this once the z9 becomes more available.

The D6 is a camera with a very small niche and it is now outdated by latest offerings

First advice check online review carefully. You will most and mine opinion is that the D6 was a waste of a product from launch. Marginal improvement over a D5, and now with mirrorless getting firmware upgrades and not the D6 it is clear Nikon has abandoned all D6/d5 owners to obsolensce.

After using a z9, using a D6 looks like prehistoric. And with the small sensor 20mp you cannot even crop that much so you will end up having to buy the very expensive long prime lenses (in comparison with a Z9 or even Z7 II you can use a cheaper shorter lens and crop ex-post or in dX mode to get an effective and useful long zoom file.

Do yourself a favor and stop looking for a D6 unless you want just to collect it in a glass shelf; but if you wan to do that, wait six months so this becomes half the price. It is very hard to pay half the cost of a Z9 for a D6.

D6 the best DSLR Nikon could produce, but still falls shorts in many areas

There are some good things about the camera, specially its reliability -yet as it can malfunction or need cleaning, I strongly suggest to only buy US models as a the international models will not be serviced by Nikon US- and good autofocus speed and good low light performance.

At the same time this camera uses old technology; and it falls shorts in almost all areas compared to the cheaper new Z9. its resolution of 20mb is very low compared to alternatives and it will not give you room too crop to zoom if you need.

For buyers getting into photography for the first time, this camera will require quite a bit of initial investment of learning, but once you understand it, it will last you many years. Yet, your time will be better spent in mirrorless in cameras as those are the future.

The Best There Is

The D6 is rugged, fast, precise, and awesome in every functional way.

A lot of people are moving to mirrorless. I’m not, because I have a lot invested in lenses, and I’m not keen on using adapters.

More, I like field photography, and the difference in battery life between a high-end DSLR like a D6 and a Z is a huge deal breaker for me on going mirrorless.

The low light capability of the D6 is amazing. And the high speed shutter is fantastic for sports shooting.

The camera is not a dinosaur. It’s amazing.

Outstanding quality and performance

There is a general movement of consumers to mirrorless cameras from DSLR's like the D6. While there are certainly some valid reasons for may people to do just that, it's necessary to determine if you are one of them.

Do you prefer the view through a mirrorless electronic viewfinder or an optical DSLR viewfinder? Many, including myself, cannot abide EFV's and find that in itself reason enough to avoid mirrorless cameras.

Will a mirrorless camera work for you and YOUR subjects?

Are you n a position to purchase lenses for the new mirrorless mount or use an adapter?

Have you rented a mirrorless camera before deciding to purchase?

You just may decide that mirrorless is not for you, in which case the D6 is the best of the best in it's class and can't be praised enough.

We needed to replace two aging high mileage Nikon D5's and just purchased two D6's.

Best DSLRs out there!

The D6 is Nikon flagship DSLRs ! It will require a somewhat advanced knowledge in photography to understand the incredible potential the D6 has to offer. The future may very well be in mirrorless digital cameras, so it is up to ea. person to make the choice, but as a DSLRs it is top of the line!Read full review...

It is a lot of camera, but will do any thing you could want.

The AF and metering are top notch, as is the 14 frame per second top frame rate. Sure, mirrorless cameras exceed that, but who wants to wade through 400 shots to find the one? Excellent high ISO function, and very ergonomically functional.Read full review...
