Awesome heavy weight flash

Great flash! A little too big & heavy for everyday shooting, but it definitely will tackle any task put before it. I thought that I would need it to complement my 18-200 mm zoom, (it is a good companion since it has auto zoom flash compensation) but the built-in flash on the camera has been fairly adequate for close in shooting. (living room shots, at restaurant tables, etc.) I have discovered that I actually prefer to flip the head straight up and use the small bounce card that slides out of the end to achieve very favorable results. Overall it's a very versatile and adequate flash. I just wish that it was a lot lighter. Maybe if Nikon offered a side mount companion handle that would be a good solution.Read full review...

Wish I'd bought it when I got my D5500.

Good alternate to SB-5000

The SB-700 is a great alternative to the SB-5000 at a much better price point. Not as high a guide number and it's recycles slower than the SB-5000 but it integrates great with my D500.

If you don't have a flash and shoot nikon buy this solid product!

I bought this product because I have a nikon dslr. the i-ttl compatibility makes it very easy to shoot with, since the flash auto compensates for exposure, so you don't have to worry about it.
there is not much that I dislike about this flash unit since it is solidly built and has filters that come with it. although I would say that the rating is a little low, 28m which is lower than the sb-900 and sb-600 even, but in real world application, using i-ttl i have never noticed a lack of power. if you're using manual settings with universal adapters you may want to opt for a higher powered flash, but as I said, I have not found a lack of power with this unit.Read full review...
